Man, can those bastards rip through my cavalry. Heavy Cav and Yari Cav get their rears handed by these guys on 1 on 1 matches. Cav Archers can't get away if you're not careful also. I haven't tried Naginata Cav yet though. However, the ever reliable Yari Samurai can very well hold their ground. The Mongol Hvy.Cav is quite fast and hard hitting...
The Light Mongol Cavalry I think has more flexibility than the Mongol HC since they can shoot also and are not that shabby in hand to hand. I haven't tried Yari cavalry against these guys yet though...

I played a 5000 koku 1v1 attacking on 4th Kawa with the mongols. My opponent was not a bad player, but possibly a little below my level. I had an H2 Mongol Heavy cav taisho, and that unit took out an enemy YC and HC and beat up 3 or 4 SA and xbow units. At the end of the battle the 60 man Mongol HC had 239 kills with 25 men left. That was with my first ever use of the Mongol HC unit.

I just hope that the Mongol Cav don't become the Monks of the X-Pack. That would be a bloody shame. =/

So the other folks in your army... they just spectators??? Did you give the Sanda Bomas front-row tickets to the show?
Just going from memory since I can't check the logfile now: I had 2 Mongol light cav units, 2 thunder bombers, 5 Javelins and 5 spear guys plus the Mongol HC taisho. I was terrible with the thunder bombers, and got them all killed by enemy xbow and SA. The light cav did a lot of damage, and the javelins were very effective throwing from behind the spear men once the hth fighting was in full swing. As a skirmisher, the javelin has to get rediculously close to the enemy to shoot. Of course, the javelin was throwing uphill.
The 239 kills by the MHC is on the level. That's the most kills I've ever gotten with a single unit. Near the end of the battle the MHC was exhausted, but still chasing and fighting an xbow unit. My Korean infantry didn't just run away like I thought they might. My opponent send YC, a YS and HC taisho down to get my MLC. I countered with my MHC taisho. After some fighting he charged down onto the flat with his infantry to get my taisho which was fighting his cav. He got there late, and I was able to pull my taisho back and counter charge him with my infantry. A few of my infantry units fought on the uphill slope of the defenders hill, but many fought on the flat ground. I swung my MHC taisho around to the right an went after his ranged units which were all on the hill without support. I think that's where I racked up most of the MHC kills.
I played a few other Mongol vs Japanese games that night, and it's pretty intense trying to get the right unit matchups knowing a wrong match gets your unit annihilated. I had a 60 man YS unit wiped out by 3 volleys of an enemy thunder bomber unit. I did succeed in defeating Mongols in a 6000 koku 1v1 on Totomi, but it wasn't easy. Once Mongol tactics have been optimized by players, I think the Japanese player is going to be hard pressed to win. Mongols have the speed in their most effective units, so they are going to have the initiative. Keeping the koku down around 5000 should help limit the number of MHC on the field.
