Heh, I'm only 25, and I've worked as a fine artist, a graphic artist, a web designer, a network administrator, a contract programmer, in Activision's QA department believe it or not, and I'm currently taking woodworking classes in the hopes of making furniture for a living. Crazy long career list for a 25 year old, no?

Welcome to the Org Musashi.

Interesting resume, though I can see the progression except for that woodworking thing.

You got a flak jacket? There are quite a few people around here just dying to talk to someone from the Activision QA department... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Musashi
11-25-2002, 16:06
Heh, well, I only worked there for a couple months about a year and a half ago... Or was it two and a half? I lose track.

I quit art in favor of computer science because I figured I was more the obsessive detail oriented type, more the old fashioned craftsman artist than the modern stereotype of the artist. I was always more interested in the precise and careful rendering of my vision than pushing some message or style, which made me sort of an odd quantity in the art world.

But then I discovered that while I'm quite good at coming up with solutions for problems in programming, I'm lousy at doing the gruntwork of the implementation--in other words I'm happy as long as I've got a problem to solve, but once I know how to solve it I can't motivate myself to write the code.

So I decided to go into a craft, traditional woodworking is all about obsessive attention to detail and love of the process, and every moment of every project is about solving a problem.

So it works for me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

29 - Grew up on a farm (chopping up dead goats and then pushing a wheelbarrow of guts in the dark with the head the only thing visible softly floating on the gizzards in front of me is one stark memory),
worked as a labourer, welding assistant, autowelder,
poured lead (no mask http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif, plenty of milk, middle of February in Perth, Western Australia I would come outside on a forty degree day and after pouring lead put a jumper on in the relative cold),
metalwork,
gold exploration (Sumatra, Borneo and the Outback)
An expression in Indonesia was 'it is a brave or foolish man that farts in Indonesia'... very true as the humditiy and intestinal bugs play havoc with ones digestive system. Eventually adjusted so well to the humiditiy that when I stopped over in Bali I put a jumper on as it was to nippy, in Telfar, WA I came in from a days field work and it was late afternoon, me and the other field hand felt a bit cold (wearing steel caps, jeans and long sleeved shirts) looked at the thermometer and it was 35 degrees Celsius,
deli hand, furniture delivery, webdesigner, internal IT support, mobile phone network technician, customer service, technical helpdesk. Somewhere in there fitted in a degree in physics.

44 - Was raised by workaholic parents in the suburbs of a grubby steel town. Learned to ride and care for horses(my father's hobby) from the tender age of 5 till present. Started earning my first real paycheck, mowing lawns etc... not included, at age 14 by working at the village library as a janitor. A year later started as a dishwasher at the local hospital cafeteria and worked both jobs after school and on weekends to save up money for that teenage dream,my own car. Entered the Marines after highschool and got out after 3 years. Worked construction as a carpenter hanging drywall, till I became a New York State corrections officer in late 1981. I run a boarding stable for 10 horses on my little(100 acres) Ponderosa. Am currently a sergeant, and looking forward to retirement (from corrections) in 2005.
