Special forces- whos the best?

Alot of people around here think the SAS are the best. Are they really? How do other nations special forces stack up? Last question, how would you rank the various special forces?

Watch golf or any world sports played by more then one nation.

Look how often a different winner occurs. Sure some countries dominate but on the day another sportsmen from another country can win the event.

War is just a deadly version of sport as far as who is the best is it will vary from day to day battlefield to battlefield. Also are we actually privey to all the different elite arms of commandos that exist?

Also what is the definition of the best? Best kill ratio? Most feared by enemy on the battlefield? etc

I would say SAS have the best and most consistent reputation at least in Tom Clancy books... but then again what forces exist out there that we are not aware of and as most of the missions that are truly important are probably black ops we are not going to be able to really compare who are the best are we.

Of the 'old' British Army ...

I'd be tempted to say the Gurkhas were of 'Special Forces' quality but at full line battalion strength. Not many regiments (outside Commonwealth Forces) match up to them.

But I'd have to go with the point about sports too ...

Actually Barocca some of them are orange in the northen hemisphere... of course they are all purple only after you skin them...

Their heads on a shield not only make great ornaments above a fireplace but if you have a few horns to spare they make a decent hat rack. Of course a unicorn horn backsratcher comes in handy for those hard to reach itchy spots. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif
