I was watching the History Channel the other night and there was this great show on about the unofficial Christmas cease fire in 1914 on the Western Front. It really warmed my heart and brought a tear or two to my eyes. As a current member of the Armed Forces it reminded me of last year, when I was stationed in Korea and how it was sad knowing those troops north of the DMZ were probably cold and starving and how nice it would have been to just walk over there with a hot meal and a warm hand shake and forgot our differences for just one day. And maybe the next day we could both realize that peace and good will to men would be better than staring at each other across the lines wanting for one of us to blink. The 1914 unofficial cease fire really opened my eyes and warmed my heart. Here were all these young men taught and trained to hate and kill each other, first listening to each other sing Chistmas songs from across the field, then, out of love and hope, broke down those lines and played ball in the no man's killing zone. I was playing Total Was at the time and had captured 350 French (I was English) and the option came up to execute them, or I could just send them back home and they could live a life of peace and happiness with their families. I thought about the chance that after I have sent these young lads back to their homeland, that maybe one day our factions would be able to live in peace and harmony.....

So then I slit all their throats and bathed myself in their blood because, after all, they were French

Oh, I also burned every building in the provence once I was finished. There goes good will and peace towards men...

Anyone here visit www.fark.com? If so you'll know that there is a running cliche added to almost anything dealing with the french. France Surrenders. Hehe also Admiral Ackbar It's a trap would work wonders here too.

Anyways, that is actually pretty touching (sans the french massacre). Just shows that even though they were killing each other they were just average men doing what they thought was right.
