Need help with the Tutorial for STW

Hello Everyone,

Can anyone help me with the tutorial (yes, I'm stuck on the tutorial). I'm on the first combat simulation where I have 30 archers against 34 yari samurai, and I can't beat it. The tutorial is offering no help at all.

I can shoot down 3 or 4 of the footmen, but then they're on me before I can do anything else. I've also tried running to higher ground and such, but the footmen always outrun me and my men get tired.

What can I do ? Any suggestions ?

I think I remember that tutorial...archers on high ground (make sure they face the enemy), select (left-click) them, then left-click the enemy (tells the archers to fire arrows, not charge them); then watch the brown ammo bar in your archer icon go down as arrows are expended - when they're out (no brown left in the ammo bar) double-click the enemy (orders a hand-to-hand attack); if the enemy flees, pursue them. That should do it.

Sorry, but shouldn't that be right-click to fire arrows and any left click to advance?

no it shouldnt be that it is left click to walk then charge and double left click for charge

firstly i moved backwards up the ridge a little to give me better range,
then i draw my archers to 3 ranks, they all fire that way,

you can (and should) order a hand to hand charge before the yari sams get on top of you,
hold down alt and double click to charge hand to hand...

(you should knock down at least 10 with arrows, then numbers and height give you the advantage for hand to hand)

Funny... I seem to remember in The Art of War something along the lines of an archer at close range is an unarmed opponent. I didn&#39;t know that archers could melee >< Somehow the tutorial wasn&#39;t quit informative enough for me.

I got it now though. I knock down about 3-4 and then charge while I have the height advantage. In total I lose about 1-2 men before the enemy starts fleeing http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

LOL I remember struggling with that when I first got STW. Archers are pretty poor in h2h, but with the advantage of height, fatigue, and the depleted numbers they&#39;ll pull through.
