Hi, I am new but I am having some problems playing the game, I have tried a search but it was no.
I have just instilled the game Medieval Total War and have installed the latest patch for it. When I try to start the game I get the Unable to initialize Direct3D error. I have the Video Card: 32MB nVidai&trade: Riva TNT2T M64 Graphics Accelerator. I have downloaded and installed the news driver for the card. So what I am asking is there any way for me to play this game on my computer with the card I have now. If you need any info on my computer just ask me.
Thank's For the help

You might wanna run DxDiag to check if your Direct X drivers are all up to date
Should be in your Windows/System folder or else do a search for it

windows is a very sloppy operating system. it's not really plug-n-play, it's more like patch-n-play.
direct3D is part of DirectX. DirectX was what microsoft built in order that games could be played from windows. before that, most games had to be run in DOS. direct3d is the part of this that allows for 3d imaging. mtw uses some 3d stuff, or at least 3d looking stuff. so, ya pretty much have to have direct3d/directx and have it working right.
now, your tnt card is about 2 generation old and i dont remember if it's direct3d compliant or not, but i think it was. if you've already install new drivers for the card, then that kind of leaves the other half of the system as suspect, directx.
do indeed run dxdiag from your start\run menu and check out what it says. this is the diagnostic program for checking directx. it's pretty straightforward. just follow the instructions.
you might also want to install the directx version that is on the mtw cd. this has fixed a couple folk's problems. if your version of directx is newer than the one of the cd, then you probably dont want to install it.
if dxdiag says everything is ok and your directx version is the one off the cd or a later version, you may have to fiddle with some other vid card drivers. the latest are not always the best, despite the advice everyone gives about 'upgrading your drivers'.
i seem to recall, that early after the release of mtw, some others were having problems with that card also. check in the tech support (the apothecary) area at some of the threads back around the release date of mtw for similar problems and see if there isnt something there that helps.
oh, and read the readme that came with the game for vid cards supported by the game.

I would not download the 9.0 as of yet.

IAmTheWalrus2, welcome to the Entrance Hall of the Org, koo-koo-kachoo. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Sorry to hear you're having trouble with MTW, but there's a lot of troubleshooting experience floating around here.
To answer your last question about getting Direct3D, do what Kraellin suggested - install the DirectX8.0 that is on your MTW CDs. Direct3D will be part of that.
