Army Banners

Hello everybody,

I am new, I just got the game, Medieval: Total War, and it's a great game

Unfortunately, I am terrified of army banners because I have no idea what each formation means. I have been unable to find any documents or guides on the descriptions, strengths and weaknesses of each formation in the army banners.

Can anybody give me a brief description about these formations? It would be appreciated.

Most of time, I usually customize my starting formations for either attack or defensive roles. But I want to learn more about the army banners.
