Hey again,
I play the English, always starting in the Early period.
My usual strategy is to start off taking Wales and Scotland, bribing for Navarre, and eventually sailing for Sweden. I usually don't make war on anyone until will into the 12th century (around 1150 or so).
I build up sizable trade routes, with goods from Sweden, Northumbria, Mercia, Wessex, and Aquitante being traded with Flanders, Brittany, Denmanr, Leon, and Portugal. My trade income isn't bad, usually I have about 3000+ Florins in profit every year.
The problem the last time that I played this way is that after I do start fighting, the French and Spanish have a Manage a Trois on me and usually beat me back to the stone age.
So, this time I thought I'd try a different strategy, I left Wales and Scotland alone and went after the French from the get... I took Flanders, Britany, and Ille de France. Leaving them with only Tolouse and Champagne.
I will now take Wales, Scotland and Sweden. And, after the Papal restrictions, I will invade Champagne, leaving the French with Tolouse to avoid any unplesant reapperances.
This all sounds good right? The problem is that now my trade will be useless. Really all that I'll be able to do is trade with the Spanish since Denmark will be falling to the HRE soon.
My question is will the income from my conquests match up to the trade income that I had before?
Thanks for any advice,
Rex
