I moved on to the Turks now, mostly because their units sounded cool and i hate the Byzantines.

Starting in the High Middle Ages, i could get some of their unique units, and since Rum specialized in Ottoman Infantry i started cranking them out of that province exclusively. However, on the battlefield, i couldn't find an option to melee them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif so i am stuck with 7 units of really expensive archers.

Is there an option to melee? Are Ottomans even good in melee? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Maybe i should stick with plain archers and pure inf. however most of the Turkish unique units are hybrids so that would lessen some of the fun..

If you want to get the Otomans to melee (or any unit of archers as it happens) just hold down the alt key, tis will change the cursur from archery to melee.

I havn;t played the turks myself, so don;t know how good the ottomans are in combat.

They're really good especially in melee and have got AP capability but don't take enemy units head on with them cos they have poor armour, but take them in the flanks.

let them use all their arrows first them use them to flank the enemy. And if it looks bad, start moving them to the flanks and flank the enemy or try to surround the enemy
