View Full Version : NEW faction appears: Burgundians?!
Felt the need to post this as I was not aware of this feature and I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced it.
Here's what happened:
playning Byzantines, late period, expert, campaining in Nothern Italy, HRE has just gone into cival war leving Burgandy in the hands of tghe rebels. When a message appers saying that The Burgundians appear and a new minor faction appears only in Burgandy with a kickass army of knights. I think they were a sort of pink colour (but in colour blind so they may not have been) they had a new symbol similar to the fleur-de-lys and had no diplomatic ties with anyone like when a faction re-appears. Before this I had only seen the Mongols appear in this way, has anyone else experienced this? Do the Burgundians always appear at this time (this is my first late period game) or can any group of rebels produce a new facton occasionaly (that would be very cool http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif )?
This is the secret apprearance people were talking about. Not sure it happens all the time or with all factions, but it is normal. Hope this helps.

I thought someone said there was a surprise faction that appeared in North Africa? Or is my mind muddled?
I also had a similar experience. I was playing the Holy Roman Empire (Germans) in the late period on hard difficulty. Since the start of my game, France had been conquered by the English (who had developed a massive empire), the Aragonese, and myself. I was getting suspicious of the expansionistic English and was preparing to make was on their armies, with the Aragonese aiding me in my assault. In a few years my ally and me pushed most of the English forces from the European mainland when a new faction, the Burgundians, appeared in a former French province (don’t remember the name, it might have been Burgandy). The new faction was a light blue color and had a fleur de leys depicted on the faction icon. I though that the Burgundians were a splinter group of the French faction and if the French had not been eliminated from the game there would have been a ‘Historical Event’ screen to inform me of the insurrection. I combed the Medieval files in search of the faction and the historical event text, in the end I found the faction name but nothing no other text. It seems a bit odd that a faction should appear in such an abrupt manner with no explanation of any kind. Does anybody have any ideas as to the nature of this faction?
A quick google reveals who the Burgundians were in reality:

So they were basicaly a splinter group of France in the 1400s although in my game they appeared around 1370 IIRC so do they always appear at a set date like the Mongols? my guess would be they do. It's a pretty cool feature I suppose, should someone post in on the unducumented game functions and features thread?
Sir Crashalot: do the Swiss appear in the same way? what date?
wow.. never knew those burgundians would come about.. i guess if you choose to play france late, then you ma have a thorn in your side

Same thing here, I was puzzled by their appearance late in the game appearing as a light blue faction....I wonder what kind of surprises there are in the MTW still.....
The wonder that is medieval total war...very disturbing
