Hello,
I'm curious, how did everybody react to the Mongol invasions of Eastern Europe and Middle East?
I was playing as Egyptians, set on normal, and in Early period. Anyway, I had already taken most of Eastern Europe and all of Middle East, including Buglaria and Greece by year 1231.
I'm curious, what's your fastest record in kicking out these Mongol boys? Even though I was spread out thinnly, I had a VERY large army waiting in Aremia and Khazar provinces. Must be around 20,000 troops (no, I'm not kidding). I went bankrupt in that one mass production, and I had left a skeleton garrisoning army in each province except Egypt and Constantinople. When Golden Horde came, everything went to hell. When they appeared in Khazar, they were too powerful for me, I had to pull out instead of retreating to the castle.
However, I was not done with them, I launched a massive counterattack into Khazar, unfortunately, the Golden Horde were able to send a sizable army into the neigbhoring provinces, splitting into half, nonetheless, I was able to meet the first half of Golden Horde on the Khazar battlefield.
About 12,000 troops were involved, Golden Horde and mine army were roughly equal, but I had more armor. By that time, I had a bunch of Sacrean Infantry, which I think is one of the best all-round unit in the game.
More than 6,000 troops were slain, fighting bravely, and brought a great victory for my Egyptian lords. However, my army was nearly wiped out in that epic battle. Golden Horde still had the second half of sizable army residing in another province, it was near the Black Sea region. Fortunately, I had boxed them in, with another powerful army stationed across several provinces. It then took me a few years of rebuilding my army back to its proper strength.
Meanwhile, the Golden Horde launched another attack into Khazar, which by that time, it was considerably weakened. It was repelled by one of my skilled generals, about 3,000 troops were stationed in Khazar province. Mostly are Sacrean Infantry units with a couple of archers, but that's it. I really fell in love with Sacrean Infantry units http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
About 800 were slain, while only 200 of my troops were killed in action. Finally in the year 1239, I launched the last major counterattack on the Golden Horde. More than 15,000 troops were involved. Needless to say, the Golden Horde was no more Thousands were slain on that battlefield near the Black Sea region. I took Khan's head myself and carried it to my Egyptian lords in Egypt, celebrating the great victory over the Golden Horde, ending their short-lived regime in Khazar province. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Unfortunately, after that great moment in the Egyptian history, my allies had turned the table on me, taking several provinces in Eastern Europe in succession. I fought back hard as I could, but again and again I was defeated on the battlefields across Russia. However, I still had a sizable army in Constantinople and Egypt ready to face the new challenge.
The allies never thanked me for my efforts in saving the world from the terrible Golden Horde I was crying so hard, begging the gods to bring down an abundance of mercies on me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif
The allies were plotting crusades against me, soon, I shall have my revenge on them But that's another story

PS. you know, I was annoyed by the fact that the game engine couldn't actually place more than 2,000 troops on the 3D battlefield. The most I could have is 16 unit size, or about 1,000 men on the field For once, I would like have the company stop telling stupid one-liners, 10,000 troops on 3D battlefield etc. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
