Hi there.

Ok I am playing as the Germans, and am attempting to take over the 'world' in a clockwise direction. I have taken everything on the map except western France, Spain, Naples, Sicilly,Britain,Flanders Africa west of Eygypt, Rhodes and Cyprus.

My problem is that Tripoli keeps getting attacked by the Almoheads (the only real enemy now) by forces from Sicilly despite me owning all provinces North and a good few south/southwest. There are a lot of their ships in the area but after being surprised twice I destroyed all my sea related buildings in Tripoli and all surrounding states however there are still large armies going straight to the province without going through my other provinces. I know you can skip water in some areas without building ports(Flanders to Wessex for eg) but these routes are marked clearly on the map

How does this happen?

Ports dont matter for landing troops on the receiving end, only when sending troops. You need to get at least one of your ships in the sea to protect your province or destroy your enemy's ports.

I see, so it could be they are just landing on the beaches D Day style

Does that just happen for the computer factions or can humans do that too? ie attack any province that borders the sea areas occupied by your ships regardless of whether there is a port at the receiving end or not?

sure as long as you have a port from where you and ships in all zones to the target.

The best way to protect your province from a amphibious assault is to control the sea.

Do you think the enemy cant put his troops on your shore just becus you dont have a port. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hail rob s and welcome Welcome to the Org.

Just to add what has already been said, you only need one ship in the sea lanes to stop the invasion. Only one.

Gregoshi : you're right, but I'd add your lone ship won't last long. 3 or 4 of the latest tech would be safer.

Thanks, that has cleared that up. I will have to put up with the attacks for now as I have destroyed all ports and dockyards (not knowing that doesn't stop the attacks&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif and have a debt of 60,000 florins, so ships are off the menu for now http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

Yet I cannot land my Byzantine forces on Cyprus, but I surrounded it with ships and no enemy ships presented to blockade the sea route...

Any idea how can that solved? Because the french has only that province and I want to send in a princess to marry her to the king.
They are isolated and will die out http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

princesses and agents need ports to move by sea.

Armies need a port in a province they depart from and uncontested control of the seas in every sea province between that port and the province you want to attack.

With shipping its best to attack the enemy fleets before they can build them up, it's a bad situation to be in if your ships are spread out across the map and they have one or two large fleets that can disrupt your trade routes and army supply routes and pick your ships off one at a time.
