View Full Version : Desert Farming
Does anyone know why yo get the best farming income from desert provinces? it just doesn't make sense.
father: The Mongols are coming, we have to move somewhere else and start a new farm
son: Where should we go?
father: the desert
son: but wouldn't it be better if we went west and started our farms in somewhere besides a desert?
father: no, for some reason the scortching heat and lack of water makes our wheat grow nice and tall
doesn't make sense, does it???
someone please help me figure out why

Well, I used some desert province in the game to 'prison' a faction. That is it used.

Large population, established infrastructure and efficient use of available land.

I would surmise because of the First Civilizations of (Present Day Iraq) Babylonians etc...and of Cource Egypt.
These territoris are Desert for the most part However they do have big Rivers traversing them and around these Rivers the land is of the most Fertile.
Just Think of the Nile's Delta, Egypt alone was a very Big exporter of Grain back in those times, suplied the armies of Rome, suplied Rome itself. And that is why just like today Oil is what drives economies, back then it was Grain, which could sustain Campaigning Armies and Local populations.
In that regard I beleive the designers wanted to make those places very fertile and create an incentive for conquest. You control the Grein you have abetter Income with wich you can advance your Empire and its Military.
Simple Strategy.

I agree. Also, even though every province can get all the farm upgrades, the amount of florins gained from each province vary. Does anyone have a list of the amounts for each province?

Welcome to the Entrance Hall keet. Nice of you to be here. You've already made yourself at home I see. Good
One thing to keep in mind with the province florin production - it depends upon the governor assiged to it and his attributes.
Thanks for the welcome and yes, it took me a bit to remember to choose a high acumen governor, that does make a difference.

If you are just looking at the total provencial income, remember that North Africa has mining capabilities.
As was noted before, Egypt and a good portion of Middle East have good farmland (in the case of Egypt, its GREAT even, but only along the Nile). I suppose Syria might have gotten a boost to represent the land to the east that doesn't apear on the map (just like with Finland, Sweden and Norway).

Even if the governor has a lot of influence on the amount of income you can rip of a province in fact, there are different amounts of income from province to province.
Take a look in the early.txt file, you'll find that there is an area where it states the income of each province.
Hope it helps.

Cyrenacia + 20%farmland + general with odd number of toes= http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif
I may be mistaken, but I believe that each point of Acumen is worth a +10% production to the overall provincial income.
To maximize on this, at the start of each game when I assign provincial leadership, I always put the highest acumen leaders to the provinces with the highest base income to get the most bang for my buck. I also try to marry my daughters to generals who have good leadership but poor loyalty.
In my Italy campaign, Venice is currently producing nearly 3000 Florins a turn... in 1168 I owe a good portion of that to my max'ed out Acumen governer.

Yes, Venice is a real money-making machine. It has to be trade too... In general though, some nations are better in generating income, just like Italians, with their rich provinces and potential for trade...
