View Full Version : Under siege but will not fall without a direct ass
Once in a while when I attack a province the defenders will hole up in the castle but it will not fall and I get this message.
Is this the result of an improvement or morale or is it a province bonus?
ROFL. clearly an indirect a** will not get the job done. hehe, yes juvenile I know.
Anyway - your force is probably not strong enough for the siege. Either send more troops or siege weapons or assualt the place. I always assault if it's a castle of better and I do it auto calc. I beleive a siege will lower the castle to one level less, which is a lot.
BTW - people here will be happy to answer your questions, but maybe next time you can post them all under one topic please. thanks. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
This happens when there are only a few people (like 2 or 3) defending the castle so they will never run out of food, at first sight the only thing to do is assult the castle. But what I do is WITHDRAW from the province, then attack it next turn making SURE I kill/capture every single one of the enemy so I take the province.
Icidentaly I have recently been doing this on purpose to my enemies: when I have a province I know I can't hold I withdraw all my troops exept about 1 soldier thsis makes the A.I. have to assult the castle (which it sucks at so it takes tons of casualties) and even if they dont assult, your still denying them use of provice for income/building and there paying extra support costs for the armys carrying out the siege. Its's working well for me so far, the mongols and egyptians have both fallen for it and suffered acordingly. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

The message is incorrect. The castle will not fall within ten years, but it will fall eventually. If you are not in a hurry you can wait, it just takes a long time. I generally bribe small forces holed up within castles. The cost is recouped by the tax you get (if you had waited you woud have lost 10+ years of tax from the province).

But from my experience, the casualties rarely go over 100, given that you have a siege equipment and it is not a maxed out fortress that you are assaulting. More than that, if they decide to assault and loose the 100+ man, you are losing a province and most likely a bigger part of your building (and time to rebuild them). Yet again in the next turn you have to attack back, and fight from the offensive, which is always harder than defending the castle.
