I am playing the English and launched a Crusade to Antioch. It made it to Swabia (which is held by the Italians) and then wouldn't go in any direction. I tried sending bishops and emissaries into the surrounding territories, and even became Allies with the Italians, all to no avail. Its now been about 12 years, and I'm afraid they are going to die of old age (and they still have miles to go before they sleep)

Any advice would be appreciated

Hello Jimbo and welcome to the Org.

The movement of crusades has been known to be odd. I alway opt to move the crusade myself rather than have it auto-route itself. Maybe the leader of the crusade lost his nerve. You could try sending an assassin after him. It may not work but the crusade looks doomed to fail from what you've said.

Now someone who knows what they're talking about can tell me how wrong I am. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

On a more general way, try to send your crusades thru the seas. Walking to the east is the best way to get stucked, wether you drive it manually or automatic.....

have you looked if Antioch has been conquered by another christian faction.Or does your ally's taken it. I'm telling you this because once i made a crusade against Spain and my crusade stood in Flandres and it didn't move until was dismantled.

Yes, if the target province gets conquered, the crusades turns into regular army. Same if the building that builds it gets destroyed.

BTW, you cannot assasinate the leader of a crusade.

I'd like to thank those who replied to my post. I fear that I have had no luck. The stalled Crusade has dwindled down to practically nothing. To respond to your replies:

-I was trying to move it manually. It simply wouldn't allow me to move it in any direction. I did try to assasinate the leader with no luck.

-I will certainly consider using sea routes next time.

-Antioch is till held by the enemy (Egyptians).

-My chapter house has not been destroyed.

One interesting note: several turns after it stalled I noticed that the original leader had been replaced. I don't know what happened to him, thoug I could have missed the report explaining this.

I'll just have to start over. Thanks again.

Maybe it is waiting for some pious recruits in that province.

I have never seen a crusade stall permanantely but have seen them stay in a province for a long time.

If you move your crusade manually, you always have to move in the general direction of your target province, cause the computer will not let you turn back or take much longer route. Maybe you got into a province that does not have a port and you cannot move from it into the direction of your target without backtracking ?

But there still should be a shortest route to the target.

Jimbo, when you say you tried to move it manually, that is a decision made when you create the crusade as far as I know. Once you put it on automatic, it stays on automatic and you can't move it yourself afterwards.
