Greetings,

I have a question: I've been playing the demo ( game is in the mail) and I can't seem to get my units once in formation to wheel left, right, about face, etc.

I set the archer units on the high ground and the clowns are facing the wrong way.

Is there a trick or do I have to go formation by formation moving them to face the enemy- talk about loss of time.

Thanks for any help.

Pax

I have a friend who has exactly the same problem as you and it took me ages to realise what the problem was. He actually creates his units 'wrong'. When placing a unit, it is aligned around the central flag. Pretty basic really, the problem comes when dragging out a unit shape to create the size and dimentions of men in it. You need to click and hold at the point that you want the front left-most point of the unit to be, dragging the mouse to point at the front right-most spot the unit will occupy.
So if you had a unit thus: With X being the front right of the unit (where you click and drag from)

-----------------------
X

-----------------------

-----------------------
X

-----------------------

Doing this would create a unit facing The top of this post.

I Hope that helps... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Yes and dragging from right to left(the opposite) will cause them to face the opposite direction.

Holding ALT and right clicking will cause the unit to face in the direction you clicked without moving from their spot.

ALT and left clicking will cause them to march to that spot but when they get there they will face in the direction they were facing before they moved.

Don't forget, you can hold down the spacebar to see a ghost image of their future positions.

Sir Chauncy & Keet,

Thanks for both trips. The (alt+ right click ) about face will be a big time saver- let alone forming the unit up right in the first place. I’m off to try’em out.

Guess I’ll be buried in the manual when it arrives...

Meus gratia.

Hail, hello, greetings and welcome Campidoctor.

You shouldn't be buried in the manual too long. It is a little on the light side. If you have any specific questions after burying yourself, check out the Table of Contents thread in the Main Hall. It has links to great thread here in the forum that provide valuable insight into every aspect of the game. What to know how trade routes work? Check the ToC. If you can't find your answer there, then feel free to post a question here.
