View Full Version : hi all ...quick question :)
hi all my first post so pease be kind http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
when playing as the french i was unable to build any longbows/billmen in the provences were they got bonuses
is this because they are specific to the english or summat?
if so then how come i could build pikemen? are they not specific to the swiss or summat?
thx to anyone who can settle this irritating prob
edit.... one more thing has anybody noticed that when the enemy attacks you from their castle and they loose that the castle doesnt fall
quote the enemy are try to relieve the seige by sallying forth from the castle
bs if you ask me hehe
hey there
well, happened to me too...thought it had something to do with the year you're in. Am not sure. As the year progresses you will get more possibilities...such as the canons etc...and yes...i thought you only do get the longbow men with the English...
So long...

hello http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
Yes Billmen and Longbowmen can only be built by the English (although if you realy want them you could always bribe some). Pikeman can be built by all Catholic factions but Swiss Pikemen and Swiss Armoured Pikemen (basicaly a better kind of pikemen) can only be built in Switzerland buy whichever faction controlls it.
I think the castle thing is basicaly the enemy
running back to hide in thier castle after they losse, the way to take the castle in this case is to kill every last one of the enemy (difficult but possible with some planning and lots of fast cavalry).
Hope that helps.

Hello there quid and alby. Welcome to the Org forums.
To correct Greeny on one point: any faction can build longbowmen and billmen if they own the correct province. I think where you may be having a problem, at least with the longbowmen, is that they are only available the Late era. So even if you have all the right buildings, they can't be built until their time has come. This is the way the game was supposed to work but a bug in the initial release caused the limitation to not work. The patch fixed the time requirement that should have been there from the beginning.
swiss can only be built by catholic and orthodox factions no?

Actually Gregoshi, Longbowmen and Billmen are unique to the English and no one but them can build them.( I don't meant to sound like a know it all. Honest)
As for the Timescale that they are available at, I have no idea but I think that they are both middle period units. I too have had prpblems with this because I now have no idea when certain units can be built. You can prepare for their coming (i.e. buld the buildings that will produce them when their time comes) but you cannot build them until you hit the high or late periods.

Sir C is correct. I played as the French, conquered the stinking English, took Wales, and tried to build Longbows. I discovered that I could not. I then read the rules/tech tree, and found that only the English can build the Longbow.
OTOH I have been able to build Swiss Pikes etc. in Switzerland. They are specific to the province rather than the faction.
tnx guys for clearing that up for me , i better start studying the tech tree more methinks http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

That will teach me to spue out advice on the English based solely on my experience with the HRE. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif I suppose that means the only the English way of life made the longbowmen and billmen possible. That does make sense.
My apologies for passing along bogus advice. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/redface.gif
