Ermmm this is gonna seem like a shifty question but does any1 know a program that would copy the first MTW disc mines gettin vry scratched due to constant use and poor storage.
ive tried nero burning rom but i get plz insert the right cd messages so here i am.
just to try and show that im not doing this for anything other than a backup if CA can assure me that the viking invasion cd will enable u to play mtw and the addon then fine.
i suppose i could try a no cd crack but doesnt that screw up any patches. it did that to me in Bf1942.
any non (ur a theif) comments r welcome

You could try one of these CD ROM station type software that creates a copy of the CD on your hard drive. The software costs about $20 and lets you have up to 20 CDs on the drive. I forgot the name of it, but you can see it in any Best Buy (if you are in the US)...
As far as copying the CD, I do not know: my has been sitting in the drive for over three months now http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif
Dont think theres a way to copy it in original form without getting that question. Maybe the addon will fix your problem, also might try a cd buffer thing to get out some of the scratches.

I'll second Naagi's suggestion. You should be able to find a CD repair kit in any Music store (music CDs), office supply store or computer store. I have one and it has worked well so far.

you might be able to return the disc to Activision for a replacement, some companies do it. but you'd have to stop playing for a while... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
My disk has had a fairly 'permanent' place of honor in my cd drive, and thus I haven't yet encountered a problem with it. I expect that if Viking Invasion serves as a 'key' disk, then that's the one I'll end up having difficulties.
I don't let the kids near cd's that I'm fond of -- so I've had good luck overall with my roms. (Famous last words, I know...) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Have a look around, there are a few products that provide either a thin plastic cover that goes over the read surface of a CD or a quick drying liquid that protects it. It is a bit rubbish, I know, but I'm willing to bet by the time it was scratched to the extend of unreadability MTW would cost £10 to replace. My copy of CM 01/02 has a near opaque surface by now but it still works fine.
Also there will be an activision replacement policy for a small fee, I've dropped CD's and had them snap in half http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif before and have had no real problems getting them replaced.

CloneCD should do it.

Yes, this is the same software I was talking about. Does it have to support the game actually to work? I think that these utilities have lists of titles supported, so it would be a good idea to check this before getting it...

Knight: Probably half of these guys have weird fetishes but no one says a word. I think that goes without saying on a board with this kind of prestige that you don't talk about doing anything illegal. Not only will it make you seem like a crook, but it will also lessen your peer's opinion of you.

I hadn't even heard of that site Knight. I have now and it seems to me it falls into that category of sites I know I shouldn't be using. And the oldest, lamest excuse in the world is the only justification for its use: almost everyone else does it too. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
You got your options for recovery of a disk that doesn't need recovery yet: buy a CD repair kit, wait for Viking, or contact Activision about a replacement CD.
Just a reminder: information regarding software piracy is in violation of Org posting policy to which you agreed when you registered.
Since this topic is venturing into unsavory grounds, I'm closing it.
