With the arrival of Mike aka CaptainFishpants and Jerome to handle the new products, it seems like an opportune moment for me to leave you all to their care - and vice versa :)
Thanks to everyone for making me welcome on this site, and for your dedication to the Total War meme. I hope you'll enjoy going a-Viking, playing TW3 (whatever it may be ;-) and indeed everything else that you find wonderful and joyous about life.
HF & GL... see you in the afterlife

Goodbye Gil and just when i was starting to like u.
Thanx for the scotts by the way.
As said... come back and visit us sometime. It is not like your account is getting closed. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
But thanks for every time you have left us in the dust, where all our speculations have been shown to be so false it could hardly be worse. But most of all thanks for the information and great humor in face of even the worst rants.
We'll miss ya, Gil. You've been a good egg despite the omelet makers we have around here.
So long Gil and thanks for all the fis... err, posts
I've only been a member of the Org since last September and it's been a real treat to see you and the other devs putting in more than token appearances.
It's quite rare to find the same level of participation from other developers on their respective official/unofficial boards and your input in these forums has made my experience with the Total War series that much better. You will be missed...

I just wanted to register a vote of thanks for Gil, whose dedication to the Total War games goes well beyond the call of duty. The time he's put into his presence here on the forums hasn't always gotten the recognition it deserves at CA, mainly because we all tend to be fantastically busy with making great games, so this seems an opportune moment to add my voice to the round of cheers.
Take a bow, my friend... you deserve it.
PS. I'm sure he'll drop by from time to time... I know this guy - a little - and he's sufficiently obsessive not to be able to leave it alone http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
I want to say goodbye as well,
I'm a newcomer to these forums but even I have read some of your helpful and friendly posts. I am sure all here will miss you.

Gil
It has been a fantastic to have you here at the org and your going is a great loss to the whole community.
I know we at the org can be a pain in the ass with our complaints, demands for information and sometimes we dont phrase our questions as polite as we should. I thank you for putting up with us and doing your best to answer our questions sometimes with humour, sometimes with seriousness and always with politeness.
Captain Fishpants and Jerome will have truly gigantic shoes to fill.
Your dedication to the community, to the game MTW and to CA deserve great praise.
If you ever come to Sydney Australia Id be glad to buy you a beer or three
Good Luck with your programming career and future endeavours.
Have Fun.
Best Regards

Bye Gil, thanks again for everything--what Gregoshi said.
I hope this means you will have more time to spar on the battlefield with us
Gil,
I'm pretty new around here, but I've been an avid hardcore gamer for 15+ years. Long enough to know that most devs for games aren't always into what they do and to find someone that is, and someone who is willing to share what knowledge, well... that speaks very highly for CA as a company (of which you can bet I'll be buying more products from!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif as well as you. Thanks for all the knowledge you've contributed.
Thanks for coming around. It means a lot to us.

Why do you go?

Mr. Jaysmith:
I only recently joined this forum, but I can see from the posts that you command alot of respect from the members of this community.
I have read some of your posts here and on other forums, you come across like someone who really wants to inform, and help people.
I've only been playing M:TW a very short time, but I really enjoy it. Joining this forum has greatly increased that enjoyment.
What I want to say is Thankyou to you, and all the people at CA for creating such wonderful games.
Good Luck, and God Bless. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Gil,
there are too many things to thank you, and the team ( CA ) for which you have helped , and the game you have given us.
I hope you don't become a stranger, and still drop by to say hello.
All the best for your future

Gil has indeed done a spiffing job, making him an impossible act to follow.
This short hymn of praise does not, however, mean that he gets any quarter or consideration in lunchtime games of, well, anything. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The why is easy - you can't have people doing the same thing forever; you get stale and it's just not satisfying. There are new and hopefully-inspiring programming horizons looming for Gil http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
The whence, well, we won't be able to answer that for quite a while, otherwise the Big Bosses will attempt to disembowl us with glass-fragment-edged teaspoons.
And fyi, nobody gets any quarter during lunchtime games... the virtual carnage is considerable.

Glass-fragment-edged teaspoons http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif must have a good union to get sharpened up teaspoons or your bosses must like you otherwise they would be use blunt say for kids/mental hospital patient/Org patrons safety teaspoons to scoop out your entrails.
