I am playing the holy roman empire and started i the early era, knowing the benefits of advanced units I fokused on getting a few provinces very advanced. However I cant build gothic knights gothic sergants, swiss pike men or swiss armoured pikemen(yes I try building the swiss units only in swistzerland)or any gonpowder units, even though gonpowder has been invented and the buildings constructed. I have the patch but I started the game before patching I have been having the problem for many many years and now even in 1320 I still cant build theese units, anyone knows why?

That seems strange. Assuming you have all the correct buildings and you are in the correct era, the only thing I can think of is that installing the patch somehow messed up your earlier saved games. Try starting a new HRE campaign. Alternatively you could look in the crusaders_unit_prod11 file to check that everything is present and correct.

I solved the problem and it was quite a complex soulution too, you had to; ehhh, advance to 1321 before acess to theese units were given.

Bingo The patch corrected this error in that certain units are only available at certain times.

Is it so, that you have to be in the late era to build these units, so even if you have all the nessecary buildings in the hig era you cant buid the units?

It is true. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

Post patch certain units are restricted to certain periods. So crossbows are unavaliable in the early period, and gothic knights are unavaliable until the late period. You can change this if you want. Look in the dungeon forum for tips on modding the game (its easy, I've modded the Byzantine faction and I am the worst programmer you could imagine).

ok thanks. I think its not a very good idea to limit units to ages howver since thecnologial superiority is one of the mos important aspects of any war I think you should be able to gain the full benefets of superior thecnology, whenever you achive it, would not you agree?

I'm in very, very early Early period, but the rebels up near Novgorod (formerly Prussian rebels) already have crossbowmen...I'm patched to v1.1 too...

Greetings Rowan. Welcome to the Org.
Alas, my brain isn't functioning at the moment and I don't have an answer for you. Those two points are unrelated - I still wouldn't have an anwer for you even if my brain were functioning. I just thought I'd mention my lights are out and nobody is home. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
