I am in the middle of a Danish High Campaign, and without getting into too many details either myself or rebels control England, Wales, and Scotland. I also control some areas in Northern France and most of HRE. I have been able to do this without going to war with my English allies. They now only control a few Provinces in Europe. Only one of which has a port in it. This Province is also the land bridge to Wessex(I forget the name). Anyway, I have avoided war with England so far, primarily becasue I did not want to fight their huge navy. Of course I would like this province to link up my English and French holdings.
So I was wondering if by taking over their only port province if their ships will all disband? I know that upkeep is related to distance from port, but don't know if you must have a port to upkeep your navy?
Well I'm not a 100% on this but I dont think so. I've knocked the Italians down to a couple provinces before and they didnt have a port, but still had a small navy running around. Think only way they'd lose the navy is to be eliminated, or you sinking them.

Eliminating their province with a port may not stop them from constructing ships. Some of those provinces w/o a port might have a shipwright http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

I also think the ships won`t disappear.
BTW, the province you speak of is Flanders
I think you guys are right. The ships stay there.
If the faction is wipped out however all their old ships disappear. Hmmm I wonder if thats the same if you run out of money to pay for them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif
Ships dont disappear if a nation cant afford the support costs. It's the same as ground troops - they dont disappear if you cant afford the support costs, your treasury just goes into the red. You cant make new units/ships (but you can get units via maturing heirs) but those you have do not abandon you. such faith they have
