Thats what it says when you are given the option of retreating from battle when a province is invaded, or more precisly the game states if you opt to retreat to the castle it will not fall without a direct assult well thats not true very often, oftenmost you only have to besiege a castle for 4 years to make it fall wht cannot the game inform of the siege time before one is given the opition of retreating to the castle?

The uncertainty of war is a bugger. I swear we had 10 years supply of food. The darn rats ate 4 years' worth and another 2 years worth has been stolen by the governor. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

I can only offer a guess here. In my opinion, when giving that statement about castle status if besieged, it doesn't take some variables into account, like the actual number of soldiers of your army who will actually fit into the castle if you choose to do so, it sometimes bases its estimation on the number of troops that were in the castle before the enemy invaded, not taking into account any possible men of yours that are stationed outside the castle.
However, after the turn has been executed, the game does state the correct siege time.

Not really helpful then... Maybe it will be changed in the Xpack, but I doubt that...
