I've been playing for a bit, but there are a few things that I haven't figured out, or that wasn't explained properly in the manual (Or maybe I'm just a bit thick http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif)

Here we go:

Let's say I'm playing as the English, and the Pope starts a crusade on some eastern country. Can I move troops there, or do I actually have to fight my way there, thus perhaps going to war with allies over it? Basically, is there any way to move past an allied province without attacking?

Also, about trading: If I have a province with a merchant, and a port, will they automatically start trading with other ports towns, or do I have to set up trade routes? If so, how? I have ships, but don't seem to be able to do anything involving trading with them.

Thanks in advance for any help http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Well the pope tells you to send crusades at certain factions. You have to build a chapter house, then a crusade unit. You can then target the crusade at a province, you then can move it either by land or sea to its tardet. It will be able to move through other factions land assuming they give their concent and will suck up catholic troops on its way. You need a chain of ships between your port and the other factions port, i.e. at least one ship in each part of the sea between the part your port goes inot and the one the other port goes into.

Merchants will do some trade without this, but each port belonging to another faction you link it to will add income.

Excellent, thanks a lot.

Also be wary of enemy ships along your trade route, this stops trade.

the only way to cross a neutral or allied province is by sending a crusading army into it. If the holder of the province allows you to pass freely, you do. If not you can choose to fight your way in (not always such a good idea really).

For sea trade you have to have a ship or fleet in every sea zone between your port and the trading port, in order for trade between the two to begin. Trading is a very significant income generator. In a Egypt campaign, currently active, Antioch and Tripoli generate more than 6,000 Florins EACH per year in trade.

Welcome to the Org Grislo. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif It is not so much that you are thick, but rather that the manual is thin. It is all relative.
