hi, my first post here, looks like a nice place.

i just got M:TW this weekend, and have been playing it non-stop ever since. i'm currently in a game as the germans, and using the glorious achievements option. i have the ability to gain points with the Hanseatic League, which requires you to control 2/3 of trade routes in the north sea.

how does one accomplish this goal? i've got ports all over the place around the north sea, direct fleet chains, and i still get no pips lit up...i haven't found anything in the search of these forums either, so if you have any ideas, i'm open to it. thanks

Hello Drang. I think you might be the first Glorious Achievement to join the Org We are honoured.

I haven't progressed far enough in my HRE campaign to get that GA. But, do any other countries have ships in the North Sea? Use the display trade route key (I forget which key that is) and see if any of the sea areas are red or yellow. That might be what is holding you up.

Also, some GAs are only measured/judged at specific dates. Maybe you haven't reached one of those check points since you took control of the North Sea.

Yeah. IT's like a race : only the arrival does count. Every GA is described with one or several dates. You only score points if you successfully fulfill the condition that year.

And the key to check water occupation is 'v'. Only green is cool. be sure to have green everywhere.

Of course, you can only control 2/3 of North Sea trade if you have any trade partners left that have built ports in their provinces bordering the North Sea area. Only factions count, rebels do not. One also gets more trade income the more foreign ports can be accessed, hence it is not such a good idea to conquer all North Sea provinces if you are trying to accomplish this particular GA goal.
Oh, and as the others said, you must not be at war with any factions you wish to do trade with, as well as with any factions who have stationed ships in the North Sea zones.

Brutal : correction those MIGHT be rebels, as long as you're not at war vs the rebel faction. That's somewhat a flaw, but rebels are managed as a lone faction. So, if you've got no borders with rebels, have no ships nearby rebel provinces, the next turn, rebel provinces will be neutral. And available for trade.

thanks for the replies.

i was afraid i had occupied too many of the territories surrounding the north sea, hence i don't have 2/3 foreign trade...

i'll remember that on my next game. it was down to me, the byzantines, and the spanish in my current game, and they both attacked me and destroyed my trade and everything along with it. so that game might be a loss anyway.

it was only my second game, and i figured out a lot of what NOT to do http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I have played the HRE to completion on GA and never received credit for the Habseatic Leauge and I ahd all ports coverd and the entire north sea was well stocked with ships , I have read somewhere this might be a bug in the game I am not 100% on this but like I said I had all bases covered and never received credit> I had checked evrey turn by pressing the V button which highlights the routes you have open or covered in green especially in the years they say you are to get the credit and nothing http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

Thanks for the info, el_slapper, I never saw rebel provinces listed in the trade income parchment, perhaps I didn't look carefully enough. (Or I was at war with them)

Drang, you'll learn something new in every campaign you begin, so keep playing...
Concerning your current situation, it is always a good idea
to be prepared to survive without trade income. So try to develop your farmlands more next time so that you will be at least at a break-even point between income (w/o taxes) and expenses. No money, no new troops. No new troops = defeat. If you want to save this campaign, try carrying the war to them so you don't have to abandon even more of your provinces, also you might raise some serious money by pillaging which will help you finance the war.

I know that i´ve read somewhere in the forum that the GA doesn´t count the scores correctly. Hopefully this isn´t true, I think that the GA gives more depht to the game, its not all down to conquering loads of new provinces.

Was a bit concerned though about the reply above, that you can´t own all the provinces around the baltic sea. Cause I´ve just took Finland that was the russians last port in the baltic, and I´m closing in on 1300, where the counting of scores takes place..??

I have noticed that GA makes several mistakes. It is very good at counting points for provinces, conquest, homelands, crusades etc. But it falls short on the more complicated GA such as build large numbers of improvements and trade.

Also for trade. When you hit 'V' Green means you are the only one there. Yellow is shared control, ally or neutral, Red is blockaded. You can trade through yellow just fine but cannot launch amphibious assaults on a nation if it has a fleet in the waters you would be landing in even if neutral (i.e. a yellow sea).

I also have never seen rebel provinces listed in the trade economie list BUT I have notice most rebels are listed as while a few others are listed as the neutral ones are very rare...I think all new rebels come out as enemy and stay that way. You for sure cannot trade with a rebel that is listed as enemy.

Afaik there is only one rebel faction in the game, and you are at war or neutral to all rebels at the same time.

I am sure i have seen sea areas green when another faction has a ship there, not sure if they were allied or neutral tho. Sea areas next to those where you have ships appear yellow too.

The problem with the hanseatic league is that you can only achieve the goal if you dont capture the provinces along the north sea coast, and Since denmark is a joke as a faction an needs to be qonquerd and sweden is quite rich and the provinces on the sothern part of the sea fits naturaly in the HRE since they are so close I only get the russian provinces left and if you complete the dran nach osten goal youll probably be left with only finlad to trade with, I hav never achived this goal but you dont need to its few points compared to the points granted for owning all of theese provinces (over time).
