Does anybody know what Nvidia drivers work fully with TW.Med as I appear to be missing units in battle esp during the Historic battles.I am running the latest 41.09 and have a Creative Ge Force T1 4600 with XP Pro Ser pack 1 and direct x 9. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

41.09 works just fine for me with win XP and dx 9.0 on my all my computers, that is: GEforde 3 Ti 200, Geforce 4 Ti4600 och Geforce 4 Ti 4200 except the one with a Geforce 2 MX 400 but I thinbkt its just because its slow.

Thanking you for this response. The game works fine with these drivers but when I go into and try and play historic battles I cannot see any troops on either side and it is frustrating. Any suggestions or help in this would be appreciated. I have patched it up to 1.1 and then un installed it and tried running it un patched with the same result. So the only thing I can think of is that the drivers are messing things about?

So you are saying that you can play the game OK, it only freaks out during the historical battles? It does not sound like a driver problem…..

Just checked out the custom battle as well and cannot see any soldiers either. So I went into Shogun Warlord and tried same thing and lo and behold....no soldiers. So went to video settings and there were two options. One for hardware (checked) and one for software (unchecked). Swaped both around and my soldiers appeared. Was able to play custom game and historic battles. Thought I was OK. Went out and started Medievil. No suck options just the GE force T1 4600 and no choice for software so still no soldiers. So DOnt know whats up. Any other ideas

I have an older GeForce 2 and the newer drivers worked liked crap - crashes, slow framerates, etc.. As per somebodies recommendation here, and on one of the video card enthusiasts website, I switched back to 30.82. Once I switched back, I had no more graphics problems and I was able to play the game at higher resolutions with more features turned on.
Of course your mileage will vary... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

I've got a GeForce 2MX400, and I'm sticking to the older drivers. Newer drivers made the game crash after 1 or 2 minutes...even if they improved prformance I prefer stability.....

Well, after spending hours last night rolling back drivers and re installing the last 3 sets of drivers from nvidia I may of found a solution.
The same problem appears in all the Total War games:shogun, Warlord and Medievil. Cannot see any troups in any of the historic battles or custom games. In Shogun you have a choice on software or hardware in the graphics options and when you pick software it works. Troups are there to see and fight. This option is not in the Medievil version http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif I was until I began to load default settings in the advanced properties of direct 3D in the Nvidea settings. Ticking sharper images worked.. for the moment. I now have the latest drivers up and running and troups appear to be visible. I dont know for how long. I was able to complete and win the battle of Hastings without any problem although there was a lot of stuttering in the frame rate. I will grin and bear it as no game has got the better of me yet. I recall playing and persevering with many severly bugged games during the last few years so for those who are interseted tinker around your property settings, experiment with various anti - a settings. (let the applications control works fine instead of having it set at x4 (which I had) and eventually it will work out.
One thing I did notice- the camera went mad and started moving north very fast and could not control it. pressing backspace or b/space etc done nothing to cool it down but that was last night. This AM it appears to be OK.
Will let you know on the best settings later on during week.

I have a GeFORCE4MX440 PCI vid card and as to the stuttering or poor framerate I found that tweaking the card settings if you have that option with your card combined with the MTW patch and turning down the sound settings on the game itself, hardware mix box unchecked sound quality to med. or low seemed to help alot . Although it took some time to finally get the settings correct it was worth it. I did not care to play as much when the screen stuttered now I can enjoy one of the best RTS games around. P.S. if you do not have setting options on your vid card look around for the Nvidia card tweak downloadI found mine at 3dguru. It allows you access to a settings tab that can help optimize your vid cards settings. my settings are as follows . Go to Display>Settings>Advanced> if you see a tab that says Nvidia and the name of your card than you have the ability to optimize your cards settings. 1st slider set to Balanced .Antialiasing = OFF Anisotropic filtering =Off Direct 3D = if PCI card or AGP card in PCI comp. Mode The lower your texture memory size the better seems to be the rule the defaults on mine are 32mb while I now keep it at 16mb Mipmap detail level=(deals with image quality) set to Best image quality. Open GL Setting Buffer flip=Auto select(lets the driver determine the best method for your config. Vertical Syncing=set to Off by default (keeps it off unless required by the Application) Image texturing =again low seems to work mine is set at 8mb (again this is for PCI or AGP Cards set in PCI comp. mode. now this might seem overwhelming or confusing and it might not work in your case but the Nvidia cards all have similar chipset (Gpu)my Geforce4 is just a reworked gf2 so I hope this helps in some way

Quote[/b] ]They thrust shoulders nigh together ,the fore rank, well nigh to kneeling, stood low before their fellows behind holding their pikes in both hands, and herewith on their left arm their bucklers; one end of the pike against their right foot the other against the enemy breast high; their fellows crossing their pike points forward; and thus each with other, so nigh as place and space will suffer, through the whole ward so thick, that as easily shall a bare finger pierce the skin of an angry hedgehog, as encounter the front of our pikes. I just got the same problem, I didnt have it before but I got it today, between not having the problem and having it I installed windowsblind, (a shelling program for windows, kinda like litestep)and it eats RAM. however after selecting the standard Windows shell it works again with hardware acceleration, however disabeling some of the features in Nvdidias desctop manager also improved perfoormance, furthermoore, programs like cursor XP and other programs simmilar to that and wbdegrades performance.
[Edit] The part about soldiers dissapearing with wb on is only true if you simultaniosley have anisotropic filetring and edge correction on too. Only using theose (wich are a part of the Nvidia quality/performance selcetions) decreases performance but does not remove the soldiers. Furthermoore those options are the biggets performance thives ever. This is true on Geforce 3 and 4 Ti as well as MX. It seems everything that makes the desktop and windows look nice decreases performance terribly, I think theese programs should have an (autodisable when framreta drops below X option.
Welcome Masterchef,
Newer drivers aren't always better for your system, even if they are for others. Some drivers did really weird things with textures in the games I played. A 0.1 down or up in the version resolved the problems. I hope that you found the right version for your system and games.
