In the later stages of the game I find my king is OOOLD, 70+ and the heir is likewise over the hill 50+. This is a distressing situation. When the old codger kicks off the heir won't have the cojones to make a bunch of new heirs.

My current game had a king 77 when he died, the heir was 57 and has only produced one male heir. In the early game my king has a ton of heirs. But, as the game progresses they all get old and I'm left with very few heirs and I'm worried about a civil war.

When the current heir comes of age, assuming he's not a complete moron, would it be better to try to off the old bastard so the young stud can produce a bunch of offspring?

That's one idea.
Also how about marrying your princessess to your best generals?
If they produce good offpring, you can assassinate old king, and his offpring(if no good). Also, you can send king, and his offspring on a suicide battle mission. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

It would be good if you could get your assasins to kill of one of the heirs. I've never actually tried it... is it possible?

Marry my best general http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I like it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

I've killed off inbred heirs before. It was just an excercise though, I didn't really need to, I had plenty of good heirs at the time and just wanted to see what happens.

I like the idea of marrying my best general though. I didn't know I could do that. I've always been sending my princi to foreign lands looking for a man. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Didn't you marry your heir already????

If so, then he should already have heirs in the waiting. When he becomes King, they'll become heirs. Isn't this the point of marrying your Princes early.

I was in a similar situation once when I looked ahead and saw that I would have no heirs. Current King was old and he had 30 years worth of unmarried brothers. NO ONE would marry the French--not enough baths I guess? The best prince/brother was the youngest but I realized he would never marry with the current game mechanics. So I married him to his young sister and kept him camped out deep in the heart of my empire where spies could not reach him and his secret incest was hidden. I killed any emissaries or such that came within the cordoned area or I would move around to avoid them. I killed off the poorer princes through assassination (even killed one of them after he became king) or suicide charges so that this young incestous prince became king and had some fine heirs. It wasn't pretty, but it worked.

If I see a princess I drop an emisary on her. I basically do this until I have all my hiers married. I just keep on dropping them and dropping them regardless of current ally/war status or anything. It is annoying and a waste of time but because of it I never come close to losing do to no hiers. All your emmisary have to be straight up pimps out getting dem ho's. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

I married off my Princii to my best generals. All I got was more loyal generals. Not any heirs.

When (if) the civil war comes who will those loyal generals fight for? I have to pick a side and at the time will I know who is the best generals that have my daughters?
