How does this actually work? When I wip a daimyo in the field and he runs back to his castle I thought I just put my army on the castle and then would be able to assault.

Instead I get a message box asking if I want to abandon or continue the seige.

I am on Easy level (hey, it's my first campaign) if that has anything to do with it.

If anyone can offer advice I would appreciate it.

Regards,
Barkhorn.

Yeah, thats how you do it, if you abandon seige than you assault the castle.

The actual terminology is "End the Siege". Clearly, ending a siege either means leaving the castle or attacking it. In this case, it clearly means attacking it...

That's right choose "end the siege" when the "box" appears and you are on your way

Castle seiges are fun (kill all enemies) and good way to increase troop and general honor!

Thanks for the info., now I know what to do

Hiroshi,

Maybe it's just me but I don't think that "End the Siege" clearly means attack the castle!

Shogun never crashes on my system, except when I conduct castle assaults it usually does. Very annoying. :-(

I think you may just be confused as to what a "siege" is... no offense. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Misspelled "siege"... lol i don't think *anyone* knows what a "seige" is... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

No offense taken, but think about it - end the seige could be taken to mean "pack up and march away" - as sometimes occured historically.

Now I am clear that "end the seige" means END the seige - violently!!!

Castle sieges are fun because, if you have a ranged unit advantage as attacker, you can completely wipe out the defenders as they sit behind the walls. I've thought so many times "If only they'd put a few units outside to skirmish with me, they might make it out alive...", but the AI just sits in there, even if you march your units right in front of the gates and even if he only has melee units.

Poor survival instinct in the AI, methinks.
