What the Sengoku Campaign like compared to the original?

Please tell me there are no X-Bow men in it?

In my opinion it is far better. Building take half as long to build and some are less expensive. This makes upgrading farmland and building mines quicker and hence you are able to make more koku faster. Hence few negative koku years. The ronin are more aggressive and are represented by different clans other than the original seven. Three time periods to start from (and still the original)allow for different landholdings for each clan. Set strat map waypoints, all generals cary honar banners, heirs are marked as such, even if two generals are merged. Alliances are slightly better as is ninja success. I could go on. I don't care for multi play, as some complain but in my opinion the single play has been greatly improved.

No x-bowmen. Though the aren't that bad. Kensei poop out at 40-60 kills. Ninja are vicious. Hand to hand they can take about anyone. I had a group in a mass during a bridge assault, using ranged weapons within the hand to hand. When it was all over they had aquired 150 kills with no losses. Nagi calvary are excellent. Good against spear troops!

The AI is more aggressive on it's openeing move in the campaign too, you better be ready to fight from the start!

Diplomacy is improved, you lose honor if you break an alliance and are told when one is ended by the AI against you. Bribing is very expensive for what you get. The larger the army the larger the bribe of course...so pick lightly held provinces http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Yeah build times are down, but the game still feels the same. You'll probably never see the Dutch if you are a half good player, so it's christianity if you want guns before you're finished.

What else...the way re-inforcements are brought into the field can drive you crazy. Before you just had to rout the enemy army from the field and you were done. Now when you do that the enemy can re-inforce from another site in the map, so if you're wondering why you haven't won it's probably that. This one drove me crazy til I realize what was happening LOL, kept thinking I'd missed an original unit. Thought I was going blind http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Kensai taking a whole slot for one man...well unless you're defending a bridge it's not worth it IMHO. I tried using him as a wedge during a castle assault, he did OK and seemed to draw considerable arrow shots, so I guess he's worth it in that situation too. He takes forever to create http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

Geisha still rule the world of the assasins, though they take considerbaly more time to create, and must be worked up to a high honour before they can reasonably be expected to take out a high honour general or Daimyo. This is much better than before.

Oh yeah....the Ronin aren't all the same looking on the Strategy map, that's a nice touch. They have more indiviuality than before (bio info, Clan name, etc.)

Hope this helps some http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Thanx for all replies.

Have you ever bribed an AI opponent and they have agreed'but broken the agreement and taken your koku and you have nothing to show for it?

Also i understand your emmissary gets killed if he fails a bribe.Do you see his head being chopped off or delivered on a plate?

Haven't seen that Hach...sorry http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

Here are some more observation (or lack thereof http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif): Drill dojos didn't seen to do much. The units built in that province already had good morale, so improving it wasn't such a noticeable thing. Next, you can replenish-retrain depleted units (for a price). Ports are visible on the Strategic map, and evryone seems to use them now http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif(although the AI still won't do a port-to-port attack.

One other cool thing I noticerd(at least I think it is cool) is that clans can be reincarnated. I was playing a game where I controlled about half of Japan and the Hojo? clan controlled the other half, and then the Daiymo suicided himself in a battle ending the clan(I usually hate it when they do this, right when I finally get to build good units the game is over, or at least no more of a challenge). Before the game would be basically over, as all you would have to do is mop up all the ronin provinces, an I was ready to quit. I clicked for one more turn anyway and two clans reiincarnated themselves each together taking virtually all the ronin provinces, so I could use all my ninja and kensai and three armor/attack monks that took me the whole game to build facilities for against a real army.

Cool that what was one of the major down points of the original SP campaign, boring end game with hapless Ronin. This is very good news..

Did any of you have used the Nagi CAV as a counter to WARRIOR MONKS in the SENGOKU Sp Campaign ?

I have a hunch they will turn out to be the counter for the overpowering monks we complained about in the original STW. Just look at the numbers:

WM 7walk, 12 run, 4 charge bonus, 5 melee, 2 defense, 1 armour, 8 morale

NagiCav 8 walk, 20 run, 4 charge bonus, 5 melee, 2 defense, 4 armour, 8 morale

These monks are finally going to DIE!!!!!!!

I like the nagi calvary. They are far superior to yari...almost comparable to heavy (w/ honor bonus)...and cheaper!

Another note...easier to win with shimazu or mori due to less hordes and easier financial gains! Such fun such fun who needs a koku cheat!

I've been playing a campaign on expert with Shimazu. So far it seems that the enemy Daimyo's are less apt to commit suicide.I've defeated both Mori and Oda,and had to corner each Daimyo in his last province before finishing him off.Now it's just me,Takeda, and Usuegi left.No horde for any of us either.I love those Nag Cav,very effective against any melee troops including monks. They are vulnerable to Yari Cav though.
I've also noticed that the foot archers have higher kill ratios, but seem more easy to kill also.I haven't played on line yet,and have only dabbled with the mongols, but the single player campaign, without mongols, seems to be greatly improved.

LOL

I did a custom battle and sent 1 Mongol HC against 1 Kensai, both H2. The little Kensai bastid killed over 40 of em horsemen before he fell! Tough little bugger.

Thinking it a fluke, I tried again. This time he fell after *ONLY* killing about 20 or so...!

Only 20 kills?

Bah, he must have been an old one. Them ancient Kensai just don't move like the young ones do, I tells ya... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Actually, there are a few different outcomes of attempting a bribe:

1. The bribe succeeds and you get the army, but it takes a turn for the territory to become under your control if that was the only army there... so conceiveably, you can defend against having your armies bribed and simultaneously losing your territory by separating them into 2 or 3 forces.

2. The bribe fails because the general was too loyal to his master. Your emissary lives.

3. You don't have enough money this turn to make the bribe. You can either continue with the bribe for the next turn by offering what you have or abandon the bribe.

4. Your emissary re-evaluates the bribe amount and finds that it is more than what you should offer. Your emissary gives you the option of abandoning the bribe or offering the lesser amount for the next turn.

5. Your emissary re-evaluates the bribe amount and finds that it is less than what you should offer. Your emissary gives you the option of abandoning the bribe, offering the original amount, or offering the greater amount for the next turn.

6. The general was insulted by your paltry bribe amount (this is only if you offer less than what you should), and kills your emissary. Only his head returns.
