Ok, William III of England turned out OK. Now his oldest son Edmund is the king and he downright stinks. However, old Alfred who was the younger brother of William III. He has tons of great virtues (even though now that he's a general I don't think age is counted or else he'd be like 200 by now ) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif Anywho, I want Alfred to become king but I'm not exactly sure the best way to do it. He has loyalty one would expect for a commander... What would be best to create a civil war where Alfred takes control of England?
BTW, I tried playing out the suicide of kings and ran out of Edmund's heirs and even though AL was still around the Hungarians decided England was theirs due to an old marriage. So I ended up with 2 spies I could still control and within 2 years the Hungarian king was killed with no heirs and end o' game for me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
Appreciate your responses.

Welcome to the Org greymeister.
I'm sure others with more experience with civil wars will chime in, but The Viking does ask a good question. Alfred may be great, but what of his sons?

Well he's right. I could keep Alfred as a General. But I was thinking more of a what if scenario. It would be accurate to think that other generals, upon seeing a weak new king, would want to promote his higly decorated and very powerful Uncle to the throne. I was seeing if there was anything the player could do to sort of start this chain of events. I don't know of any way to lower loyalty. His loyalty isn't really high but I thought maybe failed assassin attempts or stripping titles would work but neither seem to so far.
Thanks for the replies

Maybe try keep giving him a title each turn and then stripping it away the next turn. Perhaps the cumulative negative effect will drive his loyalty down low enough to rebel. I have no idea if this will work of not. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Try to assasinate him, it will omst likely fail, and will decerase his loyalty. Then give your new rebellious general a huge army and wait for the rebellion. Make sure there are other rebellious generals available too. They will side with Alfred instead of your current king and can bring their own armies to the rebel side.
an easy way to get a civil war going is to prove that ur king is a terrible leader and he has no idea what hes doing. Invading enemies with no hope of wining over and over. lowering taxes and reducing income. doing these things will start a civil war most of the time. i was messing around one night and firgured this out. not sure if it works everytime.
