Newbie question: I am English around 1100 and trying to move an emissary or army to Ireland from my territory in Wales. I have one Barque in the Irish Sea to allow this move. I cannot get the emissary or army to move to Ireland.
Does the Barque not allow this movement?
Thanks in advance

Hi there
Emissaries, assassins, spies and all religion-related units are called strategic units. They can move overseas only from port to port, thus if there isn't a port in the actual
province and in the destination province, you won't be able to move any strategic unit there.
Ships do not need to be present for this to work. They are needed only for army movement, which is another issue and will surely be answered by the guys here, if you should experience problems with that too. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

So in other words, to move your strat units, you need a port already in ireland and a port in the province with your agent in. For the army to move, it needs a port in its launching province and a chain of ships from this port (notice each port falls into a particular body of water, and so even though wessex has an irish sea coastline its port is in the english channel) to the target province.
So to launch an attack form wessex you need a ship in the channel and the irish sea, as well as a port in wessex. To launch from wales you need a port in wales and a ship in the irish sea.
Hope that all makes sense http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Strategic units dont need ships, only ports. Army units need ships from Your port to an enemy providence. Enemy providence does not need to have a port. But your men will be stuck their until you build one. (thats if you win)

Thanks guys. And to think I read the manual twice and I missed that... Truly a sweet game here but I am a loser as two provinces rebeled in a serious way on me and I gave up on the English. Try the Germans now. The English were my introduction and as with all games, there's a learning curve
