Hi again thanks for answering my questions,
but i still have some more.
This game is so complete
that some times i think it will
take me years to learn it well.

Is there some way to break alliances or
declare war with out invading other factions province??

Why is that some generals (mainly mercenarys)
can´t recieve province titles?

Hi, the only way to declare war is to invade with an army http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

attack his ships or attack his provinces and you cancel the alliance and war starts..merceneries cant recieve titles cause they are merceneries..they fight untill they die or get disbanded.. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/flirt.gif

You can sink one of their ships and start a war also.

I think you can move unit into a allied province. This will prompt the are you sure you want to attack window. Answer yes. Your unit will now be in their province. However, you can move your unit out and you will still be at war i think. Now end the year.

If this works, you have a war without a surprise atack. It's worth a try. I'm at work so i can't test myself.

I don't attack allies, unless they attack me.

How about this, baiting technique:

-Send in some assasins and spies into the allies province, into areas with border forts so that they get caught. Now the AI should (theoretically) know that you sent em

-Mass your forces next to allied province

-Wait for ally to mass forces as counter

-Withdraw your forces and leave the province empty

Your ally will most probably attack, make sure your counter force is nearby. However if your main counter attack force is on the border your ally may not attack so best to let him in, and then attack. if you want to break your alliance first allie with their enemy if they have any, if you break a treaty and then cancel the attack it doesn count a sone so no war like that

If they are of another religion, or catholic and excommunicated, you could also drop a crusade/jihad on them, thus declaring war, and then just dont move the crusade into their lands. that way you are at war. If you use this on an ally, and don't have any ships/forces adjacent to their provinces, plus don't move the crusade near him, you will get a neutral status after some years at the latest. That is the only way other than declaring war and asking for ceasefire thereafter, that comes close to you deliberately cancelling alliances...
