Hi all,

Can anyone please explain the effects of the dialogue box that comes up when you defeat a Rebel faction ie:
excecute all rebels
excecute the leaders only
release all rebells

I imagine your dread and vices/virtues are effected, what about the probiblity of further uprisings?

Thanks Arrowmaker http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I'd think the chance of rebellion would go down if you killed the leaders only. If you kill them all, the populace might get upset. If you release them, there is the possibility they will turn around again and rebel, or maybe be moved by your benevolence and go loyal.

Choices, choices.

I really need specifics

kill them all should prevent further uprisings but possibly give a bloodthirsty vice

I usually kill the ringleaders this seems the safe option although I did one get further rebellion with this option

release them all, I thought this would get them to 'love' me but it may (I tried it once) induce further uprisings as their are rebels a-plenty http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Kill them all be a complete bastard http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Trust me If you kill them all then they won't be around to rebel again. Of course some people will be a little upset...but they'll get over it.

You too can have the vice no mercy and utter bastard http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
Be loathed across all of Europe.

Last night I conquered a rebel provence and released all prisoners. The result was that I got an occasional mercy virtue granting +10% happiness in all provinces, not bad for releasing 200 odd peasants and spearmen he he http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

If you kill them all your dread increases and sometimes a little dread is good for unruly types. If you do this a couple of times you will get some really nasty vices.

If you kill just the ringleaders it seems to be a neutral (no dread change, no vices.) This probably gets rid of some potential ringleaders/latent resurgent faction leaders.

If you release them all you get an occasional mercy virtue with improved happiness. Do it another time or two and you get frequent mercy virtue with even greater happiness.

Playing as the Spanish i built up an impressive army and soon went on the warpath. My first job was to take down the rebels, after invading Velencia and defeating El Cid's Army i captured him along with about 30 others. I released El Cid and his followers and i never had problems with that province again. i got like a v/v of Kindess to rebels or somthing to that effect, and i got +10 happiness. so its up to you whether you want to kill those Rebels, i usually kill the leader.

I usually role-play that part. I alwas try to make my generals different, and usually try to get them different virtues.

Sometimes I create a monster that never sparred any captives, and sometimes somebody who let's them all go....
Yet the comments are right, there are specifc results from actions taken in these boxes. Do not forget though that some provinces will rebel no matter how nice toy are to them...

Kill them all on the battlefield. Plus, it makes a nice noise. Use fear as a weapon.

I think that the chance of uprisings is directly related to the dread of the commanding general, or the general with the office title of that province. So high dread = less uprisings. Too much dread causes unhappiness and gives your general other v/v like killing his own men for no reason. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

I will usually release rebels, as it gives mercy virtues that increase happiness. I'm not entirely sure what happiness does, but it can't be bad, can it?

To reap the best V&V's be sure to do all three options. Kill them all. Then next time just kill the ringleaders. Then release them all. Doing any option exclusively eventually leads to bad V&V or unhappy troops and province population.

I always kill all prisoners. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I'll take the dread, and or cruelty vice.
Have to teach those who would defy me a harsh lesson. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Hosakawa, what bad V&V's do you get from releasing them all? Or do you mean that just leads to unhappy population?

I rather like the mercy V&Vs you get from releasing everyone. I couple that strat with a very strict regime of making sure that province loyalty doesn't go below 100% anywhere, least of all in a recently conquered province.

But if it's going to cause problems, then praps I should stop ...

Can you clarify?

If you always release them all, your dread rating will go down. Most Merciful +20 happiness, -3 Dread. Not the worst of V&V's, but dread does have it's uses. When I'm expanding my empire, and the newly conquered provinces are far from my king, and have the possibility of being cut off through a naval blockade by my enemy/enemies, dread comes in real handy to keep the population from revolting. Especially if the conquered province has a different religion from mine. I prefer Occassional Mercy +10 happiness, instead, and preserve what dread my general has. It's all a matter of personal preference.

What effect, exactly, does happiness provide?

this seems to explain why my 7 star 8 dread gen with butcher vice seems to panick every army that sees him.

hes great for running right through territories though.

hes killed around 1000 men in combat on his own (hes a CMAA) and hes executed about oh 4000+ ppl.

gotta luv that.

Thanks all for your helpful feedback, especially Red Harvest.
I really like the the idea of Somk* re roleplaying different generals, that's a fun and realistic approach http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Killing the prisoners on the battlefield will improve the dread rating of the general (after some time, the morale of his troops will start to suffer though; the troops like those ransom moneys...); killing the prisoners after the battle by the king's (Your) decision will improve the king's dread but if you do it too often the happiness will go down (your economy will suffer).

Uh oh...I just figured that leaving prisoners alive was asking for trouble. I have killed every prisoner, from every battle, with every general, since I started this, my first campaign. My opinion was that they should have known better than to resist me. For that, they die. Looks like I've led a 120 year reign of terror thus far.

HAHAHA that's really funny http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I think happiness improves the productivity of the province which means it raises more florins a year.
