Hello there
Just wondered if there is a valor limit? I have a group of royal knights with Killer Instinct, Utterly Fearless, Expert Defender, and Expert Attacker V&V's, which currently translates into 12 battlefield valor (with the 9 star command bonus the same unit enjoys). These stats translate into 14 Attack bonus (+1 weapon's upgrade). Needless to say, this unit rolls over the enemy like a steam-roller... Just wondered if the valor can go any higher. This unit usually kills a couple hundred enemies per fight + a few more hundred hostages but haven't seen the valor go up in a while.

Greetings Kristaps, welcome to the community. I have never had valor above 12 myself, but it seems some of the others in this thread have. I don't know if there is a limit, that's a good question that I haven't thought about before. If it is like the old STW, the higher your valor goes up, the more kills and victories you need to increase it. See you around. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Wow, that's really high. Then again, I only just learned (mind you, I've had this game since it came out), that you can replenish units ^_^.
There's another related question. When you replenish a unit, does it lower their valour, as combining units would do?

Yup, the valor goes down if you replenish the units with new recruits. I believe, the unit valor is calculated as the average of the valor of all soldiers in the unit. The new recruits, come in at 0 valor or +2 max if you have a master-building of the appropriate class + province unit type valor building.

Your right on there Kristaps. Some times it is better to combine two depleted units, each with high valor, than to retrain and restock that unit with newbie replacements that will lower the valor.

According to the battle logfiles, the games keeps in memory the valour of each grunt. So, if you retrain, the noobs will be sure weaker. But the vets will still be kick-ass guys. Sure the average valour will go down, but the valoured guys will stay alive, and their impact might help some noobs to survive long enough to get better.
I personally don't like to merge units, except if leaders are weak. But it's a matter of choice between several good units, and some kick-ass backed by newbie hordes. Better is a simple feeling, as I can understand seeing valour going down from 13 to 11 is not nice. But, once again, it is NOT a waste of valour.
