Some questions... I would be gratefull for answers:o)

1. How do you retrain troops?

2. How do you use priests and stuff effectively, I havent found any use for them.

3. how much use are the weapons and armour uupgrades.

4. is there any way of stopping sicilys backstabs? I have tried marrying princesses, making an alliance, yadda yadda yadda, but every time they attack me regardless and sink my ships:o/

Bad programming?

5. inquisitors, how good are these?

I've found spies, emmisaries, priests and these units takes WAY to much micromanagement, just pumping out kniggets seems smarter.

But maybe I just use these units wrong, input?

1: right click the troop then open that areas build menu now drag the troop icon at the bottom into the build menu, voila remember that area must be able to train that troop type

2: priests can convert non christian provinces to the christian faith, ie less chance of rebellion and more loyalty for troops produced there.

3:Very dont knock it theyyyyyyyyyyreeee greeeeeeeat, Not corn flakes http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

4:no

5:Excellent if you can get them enough valour they are very useful for killing off high * generals, think of them like a weak geisha in shogun.

6: spies are very useful for starting rebellions especially for countries that have just failed to do a suycessful crusade as the kings influence is decreased by 1 reducing loyalty of all provinces, assasins are usefull for killing off that inquisitor who goes around burning your high * generals

Hello Kadagar_AV. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif You are welcome here pre-patch or patched. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

Spies, bishops, cardinals, assassins, inquisitors can add a little variety to the game if straight combat is getting a little stale and you'd like to try something different.

As for the Sicilians, just make them an offer they can't refuse. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

Retraining brings a depleted unit back up to full strength while keeping the higher valour veterans. If the province has things like armour or weapons upgrades, the retrained units will receive those upgrades too.

Italy and Sicily always get annoyed if you violate their home sea territory. So if you want to stay allied to them (and keep trading) then you must outnumber them in their home sea.

To actually retrain you troops, that was the origninal question wasn't it?

Take the unit to the province that you are going to do the retraining in. The province has to be able to build the unit in question in the first place. I'd look for the one that has the most armour / weapons upgrades so your refreshed unit will benefit from any upgrade it hasn't got.

Anyway, once in the province (that's resident there, not moving to it) click on the provinces castle and open the build unit parchment. Then manouver the screen so you can see the unit you want to retrain. Click on it and then from the bottom window where you see the units in the stack, click and drag the unit for retraining, from the stack to one of the boxes on the training parchment. The unit should leave the stack and appear on the parchment. Leave to cook for a year and a fully fresh unit is there for more battle.

If you manage to retrain whist more than 60% (I think) of the original unit is left they should retain all valor that they've got. If less than that they could loose a bit of valor as your diluting the troops with green ones.

After a few decent battles I like to get my armies together and combine units to made full units first, and then send the left overs for retraining. This saves the travel time, especially for units that aren't on the coast and don't have a province that can retrain them near. Also your adding troops that probably have some valor as they've seen battle, rather than none at all.

I have used a 'human wave' of assassins to eliminate the king (without heirs) of a faction, effectively destroying all opposition from that faction. Just produced 15 or so assassins in 3 provinces and then set them all on that annoying king. I've also managed to make the HRE Emperor a bit overcautious http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Alims/priest and suchlike are mainly for converting,so you can free combat troops from garrison duty. The same way, they can also bind enemy combat troops and money, he has to either build priests/alims to counter or build troops and put them in garrison duty.
Spies weren't very usefull for me so far, only produced a few and they all died without achieving anything. Well, we'll see....
