I find it strabge that the Danes are listed as hard. In the early era the Vikings are very powerfull and they can be produced everywhere by the danes. Producing hordes of vikings is an easy, straightforward tacitc that woks very vell because the Danes get some sort of amazing diplomatic handicap. No one will atack them. The first time I played a Danes campaing I attacked the HRE after 3 years and took 4 provinces, then they wanted peace and got it, then I attacked the french till I was threatend with excomunication, the Frenc not counterattacing once, then I took on exterminating the english and all of that was done in 1130. Another thing is the fact that everyone stays allied with me instead of HRE, French or English, and the fact that all theese mighty nations ask for peace after losing some provinces. Finally, the very usefull vikings only needs a fort and thus taking some provinces and starting to produce the hordes of vikings is very cheap and easily done. I think that the diplomatic immunity given to the Danes is to powerfull.

Is the diplomatic immunity because you have a leader with high influence? It seems few will attack a leader with high influence, and will usually side with him if forced to choose between 2 allies at war. I don't know what determines the starting influence level (?random), but it's very handy if it's high - you can get away with causing all sorts of trouble http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The worst thing with the Danes is that the HRE just won't attack, unless they're attacked.

Anyway, remember, EASY is....EASY Also, make sure you not using any Cheesy Tactics.

Also, just as a test, hold off your present campaign for a momment and start a new one as Danes on Expert. Curious what your impression would be.

Well, when I play the Danes, I just don't attack the HRE, I make them my first Ally. Doing so, ups the Difficulty a bit, as there is no other land accessible adversary (other than Sweden and the north province). So, you gotta build ships and that ups your cash requirements, so you got to build up trade, etc.

try using only ships to conquer as well.. another toughie for the danes

Or you could staple a wild parot to each ear ; that would increase the difficulty leval somwhat due to the distraction http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Lord of the Morning:

I just fired up a new game and it says that the Danes are Moderate, no harder or easier than the difficulty setting.

This was in the Early Campaign.

In your post you seemed to indicate that they were Hard.

Maybe its because I started my first game w/ the Danes but I thought they were a fun faction. Straightforward.

Take Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Finland, make peace w/ the HRE, then see what's the next opportunity.

IMO the central/Eastern Euro folks were harder, more complex. I have yet to find a faction easier, although I have not played them all yet.

I might be mistaken, but . . . .

I found something quite interesting, while looking through the early.txt I found that In one spot the danes are listed as a minor faction... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif

This could meen that the danes were at one time ONLY a minor faction and made the cut at the last moment... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

hope that made sense

Well, they do only start with one province. The Hungarians have more than that. But I'm glad the Danes were included, I find them one of the more interesting factions- you can play them like the other Catholic factions.
