Well, i have started a campaign in the first era at the high difficult with spanish faction. Normaly i play it conquering first spain to the almohads and then expand to the east from africa. Other times i start a war against France or England, then the game is more difficult but perhaps more funny. Ok, in the last campaign that started i make a crusade against some ronin province near the russians as soon as i could (about 1095 or so). Ok, as i was friend of english, french, german, etc... when my crusade army was passing on the allies provinces it was growing and growing.
To start the crusade i spent 1000 fl only (and 250 to the agreement with the pope) and the army had 2 santiagos cavs and 1 foot soldier (180 men), and when i reach to the province that i wanted to conquer my army was around 2000 guys (italian infantry, foot lancers, spearmen...) totaly free. So at the end i conquer a province close to the russian with 3 armys of 600-700 men each one and that for only 1250 fl. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

Well, u know, i conquer the russians in a few years and soon i was the most dominant country near the year 1115-1120.

Unfortunately you can't edit your topic title and subtitle after you submit the first post. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

Why did you send a crusade where you did? I'm just trying to understand the logic.

Computer soes that, sometimes. I've seen french crusades reaching their target in Finland, & saving the french faction from annihilation(I was Italian that time). The purpose seems simple to me : conquering neutral lands. & Crusades are a fun way doing that.

Plus in the beginning of the game you get a large number of fairly decent troops that you leach from other players in addition to the three or four elite units that the crusade spawns, and all for a relatively low investment. It is a good way to lessen your enemies strength while increasing your own.

cheesy tactics seems to include almost anything a thinking player might use.

Agreed, game should be played on full auto with nothing but auto-resolve for battles (except seiges) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Well Gregoshi.

Just send the crusade to that place coz i were spanish. And before to that crusade, in other game, i send a crusade from Castilla against Palestina, and u know, when send a crusade the game make automaticaly to u the road that u can only go. Well, in that case i had to go to palestina across africa, and almohads and egipts dont like it so much, so i had to fight in each province i was. When i reach palestina my army had only few guys and the crusade failed.
So i thought that a crusade against a province in the north, where my road to there were crossing the cristian factions could be very different.
And yes, as i told before, when i reach the province my army was great, with a very low cost and florins and without fight any battle.
One province or other was the same, the only important thing was that it has to be in the north.

In a sense, Hop, you are correct. However, cheesy is when you are exploiting holes or flaws in the game system or violating the spirit of the game feature. If MTW was a living entity, CA would work to fix flaws and close those holes over time via patches. It isn't anymore, so it is the Cheezites quest to workaround these issues.

Professional sports have similar issues. One player or team figures out a trick with the rules to give them an advantage over others. The league then steps in and changes or adds rules to stop the behaviour. In professional (US) basketball, the 3 second foul lane violation was added because Wilt Chamberlain was so good and so much bigger than other players, he would plant himself under the basket and no one could stop him from scoring. Wilt Chamberlain standing, immovable and unstoppable, under the basket to score lots of points would be labelled cheesy if the NBA had not changed the rules.

We can hope that Viking Invasion will eliminate some of the cheese currently in MTW.

Im totally agree with u, Gregoshi.

My intention was only to show it to all ppl. Of course, if i wanna fear game and so on ill play without it, coz is more funny and more fear. If u do it, the only person who lose is you yourself.
Ok, sometimes i like an easy game coz had troubles in life or so on and i just wanna kick some asses http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif .
But normaly i like really hard games, and its more funny when u dont win so easy and u need to make alliances with someones and things like that and also sometimes shooting the pc coz i think it is cheating me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Agree that i hope in viking, if crusades are still allowed they make some rules to avoid unfear things.

i dont see it as unfair, its just another strategy element of the many in the game. there are tradeoffs for doing most anything, for example, to crusade you cant be excommunicated so it hinders you conquering other catholic provinces. also, if your crusade fails i think your king loses some influence points.
Remember you can also crusade against catholic factions that are excommed so check for those breaks in the piety crosses for catholic factions youve been itching to smash. they'll prob be closer so less chance the crusade peters out before getting there.
One question? do you pay support costs for crusading army? or only after they finish the crusade and revert to regular?

Well said.

Nice example re Wilt.

Did any of you know that Wilt Chamberlain once scored 100 points against the Knicks, I think it was back in 1962.

Imagine that 1 player, 100 points.

Using a word many in this forum like to bandy about; I guess back then Basketball was broken http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Yes, that 100 pt Wilt Chamberlain game was in my lil' old hometown of Hershey, Pennsylvania. The town is famous for more than its chocolate. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
