View Full Version : Rebels, rebels, everywhere......

This is the second time this has happened.... my faction (in this case the English) takes on the world, becomes the largest, most powerful, tech. advanced civilization and.... kerblamo Rebellions All over northern France and the British Isles, rebels pop up from nowhere. But I've held most of these provinces since the very start, they've got reasonable (~500) garrisons in, and last year they were all perfectly loyal.

Now, out of nowhere, they've turned red and are choc-full of peasants and spearmen etc. And as soon as I defeat them all, they all pop right back up again (which is, frankly, stupid. If a load of rebels are killed off, who is left (and brave/foolish) enough to start another one ?).

I have heard that when you are winning, the game will bring up a load of rebels and dead factions just to make it harder (I don't like this idea much at all http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif ). But this meant to be only in the final stages, with a handful of provinces left. I still have three factions left to kill, at least one - the Egyptians - with armies big enough to challenge mine. The Alohmads are quite large, and the Golden Horde just invaded. I don't want to lose my most advanced provinces to smelly little rebels - I want to kill off my rivals

Might this be to the game making things harder (in which case, the hell with that), or could it be something else ? And if so, how could I stop it ? I can't see any enemy agents, plus I have border forts and town guards everywhere, so it's unlikely that ALL those provinces (about 10, maybe more) are infested with enemy spies.

Hmmm, that post was longer than I intended, but I'm fed up with having my favourite provinces stolen mercilessly from me.

Rhysy, condolences on your rebellion, for future consideration, one way i've seen to make this occur is when your king gets out of contact with your provinces, i.e., he is alot of moves away from getting back or, if shipping lanes broken, cant get back at all. It seems to be particularly heightened if you send king into attack a far off land, good luck with the rebels.

Also, keep an eye on the loyalty of your generals.
You might consider marrying off your princessess to them.
Watch the tax rates.
Are your heirs far away from your king?
Have spys, assassins, priests, etc. present.
If you have mercenaries, disband them if you don't need them.
Hope these suggestions help. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Thanks, everyone...

I've looked at the ToC, but a lot of people seem to have a lot of different ideas, especially with taxation. Guess I'll have to experiment to see what works for me... I'll also try marrying my princesses to generals (they're all ultra-loyal, but it can't do any harm).

I think it might be that my King is far, far away fighting the Egyptians. Still, that's no (real-life logical) reason to start a rebellion : Richard the Lionheart only spent about 6 months in England, his wife never went there at all, yet the English coughed up the vast sum of ransom money to get him back

Still, if that's how the game thinks, I guess I'll learn to deal with it. Though I do think my heartland should have a loyalty bonus....ah, well.

start checking your loyalty before ending each turn with the shift key.

if you bring up the province you will probably see the loyalty at hight or acceptable levels. Then recheck the loyalty with your shift key and it will probably be green.

This is a bug I believe was patched. Also consider allowing a province to rebel every turn. I have trained many generals and created lots of valour among troops this way. Captured rebels are often a lucrative and often overlooked source of revenue.

re Richard the Lionhearted, there was in a sense a rebellion in his absence as his brother John basically tried to usurp the throne. he got it when Richard died but he shortly lost their Norman heartland and was forced into signing the Magna Carta weakening the kings authority.

- Maintain above 170% loyalty
- Maintain good blood line
- Build happiness inducing buildings
-> Town Watch/Guard etc.
-> Religious Buildings
-> Border Forts
- Maintain Good Governors with virtues rather than vices
- Win your wars
- Make alliances which expand influence and loyalty extrapolate happiness ?
- Garrison the main provinces example: Malta, where heirs can respawn
- Do not overtax I usually have my taxes to very low or low and still make loads of money

I got these in a Egypt campaign all thanks to rebels. Poor peasants http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif Anyway after the battle they are all released to fight another day. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Must add that no rebellions in this campaign are other than orchestrated. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

LOL Orchestrated rebellions, now thats not something you hear about everyday.

Especially orchestrated by the people they are rebelling against.
