Playing in early with the Italians (on xpert) and am fighting a bloody and protracted war with the Alomohads in Spain. I can route the main force no worries and the Ghulams are no match for italian infantry, but I always seem to then have 3-4 units of berbers that I just can't catch. I use mounted xbows to try and shoot them down, but even royal knights have trouble going hth with camels. My inf is to slow to catch them and my archers are usually out of arrows by this stage. Anyone got any tips???

I would engage them with my footarchers, save a unit's ammo if you must. Camels, like horse archers are big targets, neither wins a missle battle with footarchers. Whittle them down with arrows, chase down the survivors with cavalry. If your playing as Spain I'd use Jinettes or Alan cav to get behind them and if the berber camels are in skirmish mode, herd them toward your infantry to trap them. If you have enough cav you can pin them with one cav unit and hit them from behind or a flank with another.

Good advice by Tito. Also, don't try to engage a camel unit with another cav in arid or desert terrain, as the camels will almost always win, providing for valour and other bonuses. If you've got two units of cav, you can also just attack them from both sides, one side first so the camels run towards the other side, they'll then go back and forth and not know what to do, if they're in skirmish mode. That will kill their morale, and route seconds after being hit from both sides.

These glorious noble beasts are put there by Allah to stop the Infidel from taking the Holy Lands. I cannot condone the cowardly attacks of your archers, and will instruct my warriors to annihilate them as the dogs they are

Yeah I like Camels myself, they're one of the only units that can dominate Lancers, if they're properly upgraded. That is of course, not including foot units like Billmen, Halberdiers, Chiv. Foot Knights, etc.

If you know anything about the stats, the following might be interesting:

Camels in desert gets +1 to both attack and defense.

Camels fighting cavalry gets +2 to attack and +4 to defense.

So a Berber fighting cavalry would look like this: Attack (3) and Defense (5)... That is equal to a Kataphraktoi, then add any bonus from Valours and generals.

Point is, don't engage camels with cav. Their enemy is the bow and arrow as they are big, few and only have Armour 2.

As I recall it was these thiefs on rotten vagrant camels from Arabia that initated the jihad launching an aggressive campaign into other people's territories, notably the Byzantine and the Sassanid Empires, I too will instruct my hardened professional army to deal with bandits of your kind and throw back into the desert wastes your camels belong to. Be warned Saracen the mercy of the Emperor will tolerate only so much from cursed Muslim brigandage. Have a nice day.

Camels are difficult to deal with for your enemy, and fun to use for your own amusement. Some of the most fun I have found in this game is using Horse Archers to get kills and anger my opponent into charging. In the desert, Berber Camels serve the same purpose. But their slow speed makes them a target for archers a lot longer than you would want. So if you're cautious with them they can really help. And if you're going against them they can be easily dealt with, all it takes is patience.
