No flaming and no USA Rules/Australia Rules posts please.

Aussie chicks rock.

In general, people prefer home. It is what they know and what they are comfortable with. The poll would be better if voted on by non-Aussies and non-Americans.

I won't vote because I've never been to Oz. I have several very good online friends from there and it has always been one of the few places in the world I've wanted to visit.

Regardless, Longshanks has certainly started out the poll on the right foot http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

After just having had a 2 months holiday in australia (where i bought medieval too http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ), I'd clearly prefer Australia. While I liked all americans I know so far (worked together with some for about 3 years), I definitely like Australia more.
Countrywise (from the landscape and geology) both are great but seen as a whole (in Aussie, a mob) australians tend to be less ignorant than americans. There are -of course- a lot of smart US-Americans, but I believe Australians are far less ignorant regarding the rest of the world.
I really liked the aussie-attitude, very relaxed and pragmatic. I got friends in the US (New Orleans and SF) and in Australia (Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney),so the decision was somewhat hard.
Let's put it this way: I'm seriously considering moving to Australia. I don't think I'd ever consider moving to the US.

Australia wins hands down Although I have not been to the US (and plan to keep it that way).

Which nation has the greatest sporting record? Certainly not the US (per capita Aus is the greatest http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ).

Who formed a democracy through peace not war? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif Australia.

Who's full strength beer is really only light beer? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif the US

Who no longer has a Democracy? The US (Patriot act took care of that)

Which English colony kept playing cricket until they could beat the poms? Aus of course. lol Yanks couldn't hack it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

9 out of 10 women in which country are obese? LOL http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Which country are you more likely to be shot in? US (Canada has more guns per capita than the US, but the US has many more murders, and most murders in Canada are committed by US citizens)

Which country claims to speak English but is changing the meanings in it's dictionary? US (have a look at this link if you don't believe me http://www.rense.com/general34/orwell.htm )

In which country are the masses brainwashed to think that you can fight fire with fire? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif Both to a degree unfortunately.

Hey all, i'm an aussie but i lived in New Zealand till i was about 11 and i reckon it's better than both of them..
the people are the same as in australia ('cept they like rugby union rather than rugby league), crime rate, standard of living etc. are similar but NZ has IMHO better countryside (lord of the rings anyone?) and it also has a much better environmental/human rights record.
ps:- I voted OZ in that poll but i am understandably bias so...

Herodotus, your post belongs in another thread. There are 2-3 other threads currently going in which you can hammer of Americans. This thread is Oz vs America Lite. Have a bit of humour. That goes for the others too.

Gaius, I happen to love Canada too. My dad has a cottage on a lake in Ontario. We spend a week or two there every summer. I am never more at peace than I am there. Of course, I've not been there during winter nor have I had to deal with the day to day living issues. Oh well. I could spend a day just sitting on the deck and taking in the wildlife and the lake. Now, where are my Gordon Lightfoot CDs...

As for Oz, the only major downfall I see with the country is with it's animals and insects. Oz creatures are a standard feature on Animal Planet - World's deadliest animals, World's deadliest insects, World's deadliest plants, World's deadliest snakes, World's deadliest rabbits, etc., etc. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Australia has my vote...it may not be the best place to live ( New Zealand is...and NZ doesn't have the World's deadliest animals, World's deadliest insects, World's deadliest plants, World's deadliest snakes, World's deadliest rabbits, etc.,etc but the people have a similar attitude( although I don't think the women have that whole lets leap into the sack, I've known you 2 hours thing)But the Australians are as close as you can get to New Zealanders...never having been to the United States I have no experience of the people in their natural enviroment so I cannot make a informed decision really.

Economically? The United States

Geograpically? The United States, because its so damned big...you can ignore the bits that are crap.

Politically? Australia ...in the United States only a very wealthy white male really has a shot at being President... in Australia only a white male really really has a shot at being the Prime Minister... Australia wins that one by one point.

well as far as economy is concerned, austrlia actually has one of the strongest economies in the world at the moment, even better than the US, only because ours si moving forward, while thiers is going back.

Location, its 50/50, the US has 'uge tracts o land and they are productive, but australia is more secluded, and feels like its a world away which is great.

Gregoshi I thought my post was quite humurous and 'lite', and I don't consider it to be US bashing.

The only one I thought was a bit distasteful was the obese women one and thats why I didn't answer it.

If you think me saying that the US doesn't have a Democracy is offensive you can get lost because it is true. The Patriot act proved that, Bush handed out the bill to be signed without time for it to even be read by the senators, with the threat that anyone who didn't sign it would be branded 'un-patriotic'. Does that sound like a system of democratic representation? I don't think so.

Anyway like I said from now on I'm sticking to TW subjects here.

I'm working on economics HW right now, so I have an excuse to get some info.

First off, we are comparing a 10 trillion dollar US economy to a 180 billion dollar Aust economy.

In Australia the GDP is growing by about 3% vs. about 1% in the US. Inflation is about 3% Aust vs. 1% in US. Unemployment in both countries is about 6% (6.1% Aust & 5.7% US). Per capita in US is about $36,000, in Australia it's about $9,000 - this is in US dollars and is not adjusted for parody in the cost of living. But even with that considered, picking Aust as the stronger economy is not a good argument. The Aust economy may be growing faster, but at a 3% growth rate it has a long way to go before the average person in Aust enjoys the same economic standard of living as in the US. Besides that there are some obvious factors draggin down the US economy. These matters will most likely soon be resolved and the US will return to a growth rate of about 3.5% next year - this is Alan Greenspan's (US Federal Reserve Bank) projection.

how many of you australians visit every state in the US? how many places do you go when you get here? New york (sucks) LA(sucks) orlando(kinda sucks but fun for kids)

you havnt seen our entire hinterland - we have snowwy mountains, deserts, tropics, warm beaches, forest, temperate zones, maritime comunities

i know you have similar things, but the US just has soooo much

but ive only been to perth, ayers, cairn and sydney - so i have only seen parts of your great country - i really missed the outback (ayers doesnt count cuz i only saw desert)

aww hell, im goin next year and im gonna be 21, so itl be much different from what i remember

An objective view eh? This means no politics and sorts in my ears…

I have been to both countries; in fact I am currently studying in Brisbane Australia.
…this is hard…

US:
Better candy (cherry twislers),
Slightly better cars (although a Holden Monaro would be my overall choice),
Better petrol prices,
Drives on the right side of the road
Better nature (Auzzie Nature is to Alien for my taste)

Aus:
Better apartments,
Better women (I suspect most of them are Scandinavian students),
Nicer people

I can’t think of anything else that is different in the two that would sway my choice.

When it comes to preferred place to live, I am not sure. If you have money US would be the preferred country (they are after your money). If you want down to earth people Australia would be the place.
Heck I can’t decide. A null vote from me. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

When all comes to all, I’ll go back and live in Norway where I was born and raised and where stability and security are dominant (11.Sep & 12.Oct anyone??) I almost left this place after the Bali Bombing. I am hoping the Aus. Government keeps me safe where I am and that I can finish my degree this November.

Well to your question; I have two semesters left of my Master degree in IT, with a major in information systems.

If you’ll be 48 in 16 years time, that’s making you 32 right?
Hm, you’re still too old for the nice ones.
Money and a nice car would help there. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I'm 30, and I guess my receding hairline and body hair is a put of for the younger ones, but there are many women out there that like that too. At least that is what my wife tells me. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

dont feel bad, got the same prob, except mines going grey, already have the peppered look.. but my wife says she loves it so oh well....

college, im either gonna get a masters in business, but i'm thinking of getting another degree in computers or communication technologies, that seems to be the wave of the future, don't know yet, need to find something i can use my business degree with, then i might actualy enjoy my work... they pays great, but the headaches, put it this way, my doctor has me on hyper tension, and anxiety medicine because of the stress loads i have to bear.. that's the main reason for going back find something i love to do again, and theirs less stress...

only plus side from this stress ball, is i can put on my resume, that i manages a multi million dollar a year iternational corporation, well international is a bit overstated, still we do a little business in russia, and japan, so i guess it's true
