Suggestions for RTW:
- Consider civil population issues. Armies come from civilians (at least after Marius reforms).
- Consider number of civilians. Facilities must have a number of workers.
- Civilians have to eat. So you can siege and starve a city. Or you can invade a territory and harvest enemy farms (it was a extended war tactic). Or devastate them.
- Population growth depends directly of the amount of food, other factors could influence, but it is a natural law. So, the farms and upgrades would have a direct influence on the army's creation and the provincial workforce. The food is to eat, is not koku or florins. You can sell, anyway, the excedent. Keep in mind that in Rome, corn was almost free (demagogic policies) to keep the support of the poor people.
- Slavery must be a key factor in RTW. Sold enemies into slavery should increase the treasury and would have a dramatic impact in the labour force. So, the unnecessary workers could be soldiers with no influence on the city's development.
- More to come...

Civilinas sohudl be used as canon fodder, nothing else.
And no sim city style where cities grow and stuff, no thx.

Ryttare: Say civilian is not say sim city stuff. If you want battles, play the tactical part of the game and be a centurion not the emperor.
What makes the totalwar series different to other strategy titles is the mix of tactic and strategy.
Strategy involves politics, economy and social issues.
You say civilian is sim city? then you can renounce to collect taxes because money is tycoon series. Or choose not to build any upgrade cos that smell like AoE stuff. Or suppress the diplomacy, that's Europa Universalis.
I think TW series stands up because of tactical battles, its historic accuracy, and the deep level of strategy. My suggestions were for the strategic part of the game, but don't worry I have read that will be governors for the administrative tasks.

Welcome to the Org Chapius.

I agree with you about civilians and their influence on the game. Ryttare, I don't think anyone is suggesting TW becomes SimCity. Civilians/population can still influence the game - and should. Civilians affect loyalty, ability to raise an army from the population and provide the means of feeding & supplying the armies.

The TW series is great because it gives you freedom of choice in regards the type of game you want to play. Diplomatic, tactical or both. It would be nice to see deeper developments in diplomacy for Rome TW. Ultimatly though all the work put into creating this awesome new world of Rome as we've never seen seems a bit wasted by the fact you can only share in it with your computer.

Now I'm not re-opening up the debate for mp campaign, just stating my opinion Either we have to be greatful because what else comes close Besides the day for mp campaigns will come CA or no CA

I have to laugh when I look back in the day when all we had was Pong http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Yeah, but Pong didn't have online play. Atari(?) never implemented it. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

- Naval warfare improvement would be great. Regarding naval tactics in the time were limited to charge ship against ship to sink down the enemy or bord it to establish hand-to-hand combat, the roman preferred naval warfare tactic (throwing-things machines was very innaccurate at sea) .
I think the CA guys may find a elegant solution (God bless the new engine).
- As a consecuence Pirates could be a minor or rebel faction. Romans made several campaigns against them, so it would be very respectful with history (and very funny).

Chapius,

Clarification: Are you hoping for 3D Naval warfare or do you just want more indepth naval fighting without actually having a sea battle? Because I wouldn't mind fighting at sea at all but frankly I would rather the developers fix the bugs in the main part of the game. I also think that they would have announced 3D naval war by now. Still we can always dream Keep the suggetions coming Chapius. Very good job. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I agree with you. And yes I meant 3D sea battles.
Maybe for Huns Invasion. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Good ideas Chapius...I too would like to see a bit more depth to naval conflicts, as well as some way for allies to communicate/coordinate a joint attack.

KukriKhan,

I heard, I think in that PCpowerplay preview, that there definitely will be different kinds of alliances like non-agression pacts or treaties of mutual friendship and the like. I also heard that alliances will increase trade and it will be possible to bully other weaker factions. THe article also stated that you can communicate with your allies and coordinate attacks with allies. You should check the article out, I think there might be a link on the totalwar.com site.

A couple of ideas more.
With the new Campaign Map, the movement of the armies will be in a more realistic way. I would like to know how the army's speed will be determined. Different units would have different speed rates and an entire army would move at the speed of the slowest unit. I think this is a fact in RTW, I read that we can build roads, and the purpose of the roads was to improve the speed rate of the marching armies.
The march of the armies in Campaign Map would impact in their tiredness. And this march rather than a continuos movement, would be a march with stops to rest and resupply. The longer the march, more exhausted the army would be, with consecuences in tactical map and a slower speed in Campaign Map.
Terrain could influence dramatically in this matter, and dangerous terrain must produce casualties in certain units (The Alps almost annihilated the Hannibal's War Elephants).
Well, I was to explain an idea about resuplying methods, but I prefer discuss this matter before pass to another one.
Greetings to the community.

It is a definite fact that we will be allowed to build roads, border forts etc but I do not know besides that (I'm sure armies will move faster with roads) how speed will be determined. Troop type, weather, etc will all play a factor. Although I have heard it said that it will be possible to march an army from France to Egypt. I hope he said theoretically possible but what can you do?
