Hi

This is more like general information and not a question.

I had to travel for a week , and that had the terrible consequence of not being able to play multiplayer during that time , but as I ve just got a new laptop I ve tried MTW on it and it worked very well , so if you have a decent laptop you might want to try it.

I have the following hardware:

PIV 1.7 GHz 512 Mb ram Windows XP Pro
( I am aware of this being better than average but the game is basically graphics intensive so that would be the differentiator)

Graphics :

ATI Mobile Radeon 7500

I think it will work for people with the same graphics processor or with one of the Mobile Geforce versions too.

kind regards

Your Laptop is powerful, 1.7 Ghz is quite enough to make MTW running faster...good good good http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I've always played MTW on my laptop at college, 1.1Ghz processor and 256 Mb ram (I think). It runs just fine, although I can't say I've tried it with multiplayer.

I play MTW on my 1G Athlon, 128 MB RAM & teensy 8MB hardwired vid card, laptop. Campaign works well; have to keep the troop-count down in battles, and I've successfully lost in a 2v2 low-florin MP battle or 10.

I love the mobility & small footprint of a laptop...but dislike the lack of upgradeability. Bought this rig for about $2K July 2001, hoping it would suffice for 3 years. But I can already hear the new machine monster breathing down my neck. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I only ever play MTW on my laptop. I sold my desktop, so the only thing I have left is the laptop.

It has never caused me any problems....

I also have a 1.7 P4 with 500+meg

It really doesnt break down into laptops and desktops it depends entirely on the indevidual rig of the machine. For example I have an old laptop running at 266 mhz that would have no chance of playing MTW, but I know a person with a p4 laptop that could probably run MTW 2 times at once http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

I personally play Mtw on an 866mhz p3 with a geforce4 64mb and 384 mb sdram.

What I was trying to say is that if you have a laptop
it is worth trying to play on it even if you dont use it for games otherwise

And I agree, tgi01. 2 years ago, trying to run any then-current game on any laptop was a 95% losing proposition. However, now laptops are often powerful enough to handle games, and some vendors (notably Alienware) are configuring mobile rigs specifically for the gaming community.

Why is this important? Because it expands the number of types of systems the developers need to test their game on. IIRC, RTW is currently running on a laptop in the dev's lab; a very good omen for us mobile computer users (and there's more of us every day, as evidenced by this thread).

Q: I use a USB mouse; does anyone even try to use the touchpad to play games?

I tried the touchpad on mine when I first got it, I was in love with the idea of sitting on the couch to play a game. It worked OK for the strategic map but was a little to cumbersome to use on the tactical parts. Now I use a mouse.
BTW my laptop is a P4 1.7G 384 MB RAM and a 32 MB Gefororce Mobile and it works great. I also play Morrowind and Warcraft III on it.
