Something irritating happened to me last night as I was playing my campaign as the English. Several years ago I had taken the province of Antioch through a crusade, and soon afterwards I had a good opportunity to go in and occupy neighbouring Edessa as well. While I was sieging the keep at Edessa the Italians, one of my allies declared a crusade against Edessa. 10 years later the Italians finally arrived in the region and told me kindly to abandon the province as they were from a mission from God. I was a bit annoyed since I had won Edessa fair and square, several of my crack troops had died while assulting the keep a decade earlier... In fear of getting creamed by the Italians 1500+ strong army and being excomunicated by the pope I caved in and withdrew to Antioch.

What would have happened if I refused to leave? I assume that I would be the one to be excomunicated right? Or would the Italians get in troubble since they were the agressors? They did have a decree from the pope though... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I think you did the right thing.
If memory serves me correctly you become excommunicated if you obstruct a crusade from reaching it's goal. You would have interfered with God's (read: the pope's) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif will, had you denied them the province.

But give it a few years, and you will get the province in the end anyway. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

That's odd... I had declared a crusade the other day for Bulgaria, I believe. However, a year later, a bunch of those bluddy Sicilians conquered Bulgaria, and I got the message that my crusade had been disbanded. But, I was left with 75 Knights Templar, a few hundred fanatics and peasants, and a few others sitting around in Aquitine. So, I sent them all to Greece to conquer Greece, and then Constantinople a few years later, with the help of some mercenaries.

This is odd too. When my crusade was disbanded, everybody goes home ;(

If you stop the crusade from entering your land you are getting onto the dark side of the force right away. Noquestions and buts. Whe the target province is conquered, your crusade becomes a normal army (I do not know what happens if you are outside of your borders...)

If what you are saying is tru, it might be that there are again different rulez for AI and human player?

The Rules are most assuredly different. The AI gets much more discretion in choosing the route it takes.
