I have read here about the problem of getting the Princes married later in the game. I came across this accidently and thought I'd share and to see if others have found this.

I was trying to get a bride for the kings younger brother, so I was hitting on several princesses. I had just looked at the heir list and saw that this king's son was 14. Atfer hitting year end, several king's declined the proposal, but one agreed. The only thing was the princess married the newly 15yr son of the king.

Now I keep track the ages and hit up the princess's on the kids 14th year and usually get him a bride.

Anyone else do this?

I've not heard of that one. I gather from what you are saying that you have had pretty good success marrying off the 14 (so-to-be-15-year-old) prince late in the game when the player typically can't get anyone married? Have you tried the same thing with princesses?

Please tell us more. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

Exactly. Start the agents proposing marriage when the kid is 14, hit year end, the kid turns 15, you get the king of (whatever) agrees to your proposal and finally you get the An heir matures message. Check him and presto married 15yr.

I usually use 4 or 5 agents hunting princesses, the more the better. This was not late late in the game but no one will ally with me and NO ONE will take a cease fire.

As far as princesses, not so much. I usually end up marrying them to my generals.

a cheasy way to get a prince married is to cancel the alliance and then ask. Most of your former alliace will want to make friends. I just give up, if the king is single he finds a peseant the first year in office anyways, so the princess hunting is kind of pointless.

Excellent. Now, true to the scientific method, can anyone else out there try to duplicate this? I'd give it a go, but at my rate of play, I won't get to the necessary stage of the game for another two years. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

I'm on it Gregoshi http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I can report that late in the game, when my faction is approaching the 50%+ domination mark, none of the other factions are eager to marry, cease-fire or ally.

However, using Oslac vel Aslac's tactic of 14yr-15yr olds, I (Spaniard) did get an heir merried to a French princess. That marriage-made alliance only lasted 2 years, but hey...it's more than I've been able to do before.

Thanks for the useable tip Oslac. Haven't found a similar result with my princesses, sadly. Just using them to buck up the gov's of newly-acquired provinces.

Welcome Snowhobbit and pass the cheese. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

You are right about it being cheesy, but the programming that prevents any marriages at all once you get too powerful is a bit cheesy too. It seems to me the AI should sometimes suck up to the powerful faction (you) in hopes of not getting steamrollered or at least buying itself a little more time.

That is a very valid point Gregoshi. It kind of looks like Iraq tossing stones at US.... It cannot defeat the giant, yet it tries to fight... I guess some people are just like that: fight to the sorry end.

KukriKhan, thanks for the verification, I haven't made it past 1280 or around there.

Well, there is it. Use it if you wish or not if you find it cheezy.

Well, it may seem very strange, but, if any of you have ever played a game such as Diplomacy (or any of the bordgame kind of...), you will notice that most of the time players unite against the most powerfull guy on the map, even if very weak / having very little hope of notbeing steamrolled.
Nobody wants to speak to the big guy anymore... and so on.

Sucking up the big guy is not really a human behavior in those kind of games, so I don't complain too much about the AI doing the same.

Nice idea Oslac,

Louis,
