Ok, I am playing the English on Hard and seem to be doing okay a few years after the Golden Horde appeared. My English king has been in Wessex basically the whole time. His two top heirs have been there, too. I control all English isles, Norway, Sweden, my original 3 provinces in France, plus, Flanders, Denmark and Friesland. Not only that, a while back I had crusaded in to Constantinople and won that a few decades early, and had subsequently conquered Greece, Nicea, Anatolia, Trebizond and was working my way across Turkey. The Spanish, Novgorads and Sicilians have the biggest empires besides me. The Spanish had conquered most of the French and Germans, plus the Almos and Egyptians..

My king was getting old, so every year, I’d make sure he and his heirs were in Wessex. However, I get the message that my king had died and his heir took over. However, I searched all over the board for my next king, only to find him in Constantinople So, in order to keep him back to his throne and repair the sinking loyalties in the English Isles, I had to go back to an offensive war with the Sicilians – I had been warned for counter-attacking them earlier after they sunk one of my ships. So, I got excommunicated immediately, sent about 20 assassins at the Pope, and 3 years later, I finally had a clear sea lane to Wessex. And, even though my minimum chance at killing the Pope was 17%, I failed all 20 times, and he ended up with a virtue of +4 valour against assassins.

But, how did my new king end up in Constantinople?

your capital is defined by the number of buildings or how developed the province is. If u want capital in wessex burn a few worthless buildings in constantinople and build up wessex

Hmm, I have a fortress in Wessex (and neighboring Mercia), but only a citadel in Constantinople? But, I guess since I have no shipbuilding in Wessex..., but can build caravels in Constantinople...

If you really want to ensure all heirs come in wessex destroy the royal palace in constantinople. We never did come to any conclusions on this before, but some think its the development of a province, others that is royal palace level. Either way it should work, tells us what you find out.
