Uppity nobles

I remember reading that if titles are assigned to non-noble individuals the nobility will start to dislike you; this is supposedly why the computer only auto assigns titles to noble generals. If this is so what are the exact affects and what constitutes a noble. One would assume that any man leading a unit of men might be of some sort of higher standing. However I have noticed the prefix sir on English and French units, so maybe they are noble?

Dunno, I assign titles based on the acumen of an individual, thus they all get them knights and peasants I they are smart enough (except when the title is associated with a command bonus, than usually a higher ranking general gets it even if he is completely dumb). I never got any negative feedback from the game on this nor any noble's mutinies. I also wonder, maybe a guy that is leading even a peasant unit is some kind of a lesser noble?

I seem to remember once assigning a title to a peasant unit with 4 acumen, and as soon as I did so the income in the province went up, but the loyalty went down This was an isolated incident and I don't know if I can reproduce the exact effects, but do you think maybe the drop in loyalty was due to the people being unhappy with a peasant for a governer?

drops in loyalty due to generals happens to me often, here is what i see as the causes.

1) religious differances. I pious christian govener will not go over well with a muslim populace, but they will convert faster.
2) the govener has low loyalty to you and thus the peasents are less respictfull of your rule (not so shure about this one)
3) a low piety govener in a highly zealous province, when the people are all god fearing and witch burning they cant stand having a faithless wretch in office.
4)no dread govener in an already rebellious province. A province that is already rebbellious will find a soft push over govener as another incentive to revolt. where as a less rebellious province will be unaffected by the lack of dread.

It is quite possible the drop in loyalty I saw was due to low dread or low piety. I guess we won't know without some more extensive testing I'll see if I can work on that.
