Hey, Just looking for suggestions of best program to use. I've never used one that was offline before, so am looking for simplicity, and really only to upload screenshots & pics to link out. I used to have Earthlink, and it had an onlide page builder, that would let me upload the pics into a directory on the page, (not part of the displayed page, just there to link out.) Looking to do the same, and was hoping to find the easiest utility to do that with now. I've got the space, etc, but it has to be done offline. Thanks for any input.

Hi Baron,

I think it's easily to just code the webpage yourself, using HTML You can get some pretty good results (nothing fancy) and it's really not that hard. Here is an example of a MTW webpage I made using this technique:

Example MTW Webpage (http://galileo.spaceports.com/~snaproll/MTW/Spain.html)

The best way to learn is to click View and then Source in your browser to get the code. All you need to do is type out the text in a text editor and then save it as an html file. If you can't figure out the basics from looking at the source, there are tons of pages out there with basic HTML tutorials.

As far as programs go, I've never used one

Try microsoft Frontpage, I myself like the interface, and it's easy to adjust to. If you don't want to pay, there's tons of freeware on the internet, lately I've tried out FirstPage, which works pretty well.

Thanks fellows. I'll probably give self coding a crack... My brain was on pause when I posted... I just realized, that to upload them, I just send the folder, with the jpg's, and their adress will be the folder+file added on to the root adress..... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif *Trots down the yellow brick road singing If I only had a brain...

Also depends on what you want to spend and how involved you want to get. Dreamweaver will do anything you want and is the most efficient of the softwares. But ideally learn HTML, it will prove to be more powerfull and efficient. (imho)....

You could try freeserve it's free
it's got a set format so all you have to do
is pick a format for the page and upload.
It's not nothing special but I don't think they could make it easier or cheeper http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

if you just want pics
html is not rocket science
even if you don't have a brain anyway.

Snaproll, when is the next installment forecoming? That was a great read. I ll encourage anyone who enjoyed the 'King of England' thread to go check his site out - link further up.

BTW neat website - I only went there to see some of your source codes and ended up there reading about the heroics of Alfonso and El for over half an hour.

Just created my first website.

Being a newbie and not really having the time to dig into the depths of HTML i bought a simple drag'n'drop program.

Serif WebPlus8.....I'm sure it has its critics...but hey...I got the results I wanted...it even has its own built in FTP.

Also trying XARA Webstyle for the banners and menu's.
Works well with thumbnails too.

This is my first try and is under development.
Not much there but for a first go not so bad?

I use FrontPage XP and like it, although it slaughters the HTML code and puts sooooo much garbage into it. Dreamveawer MX is also nice, but more... business-like. I have never used anything else, but if you are good with MS Office, learning FP will be one day affair...

*Serif WebPlus8.....I'm sure it has its critics...but hey...I got the results I wanted...it even has its own built in FTP.*

Looks great If anyone dogs you for what creation tool to use, screw em... you got the results *YOU* wanted (and damn good ones, if I may say) and THAT is all that matters. I get sick of reading people saying negative (sometimes downright cruel) things about what people use to do their website (often times their first attempt) which is very discouraging to some, let alone someone who just started on a PC.. (Not here, of course... at some of the more barbarous forums... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif )
I found a great FTP tool (Smart FTP) and in spare time reading into HTML... If I confirm that I'm to stupid, then I now have about 10 progs to check out. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif
