This has got to be the hardest campain setting. The land is poor, cold and miserable. The units are outdated to start and only get more outdated further on. The biggest kicker of all is when the golden horde arrives with 12 stacks barely after the game has even started. (after patch) I recommend every one try this who like me has found the game generally unchallangeing when attempting 100% conquest.
But ill make it, pulled a fast one on the horde and routed there whole army of 12 stacks after defeating the only 2. Ransomed the other 10 stacks back to them for 90k Now the horde is in turkish territory and not my problem, for a while. Cant wait to get home, whip out the vodka and march my armies across the frozen plains of my homeland and onto glorious pilliging juants http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

hey wordsmith, i gots to agree wit you here, Russia is tough
though they are up there for my favourite faction just cause it is such a challenge (plus boyars).
ps:- Try modding it to start in early, it's not so tough but at least you get to use russia's units before they become totally obsolete.
ahh.. ive played this.. it is mighty fun.. and hard.. so far ive got half of europe now

starting in high era with the russians, i get either overrun by the golden horde or when i build the maximum of sprearmen to counter, i'm 16k florins in red 5 years after the arrival. i wonder how you can contain the mongols, except with a lucky charm to wish they don't attack you, i mean, you hardly have time to gather money AND build an army

i can't wait to try playing the russians in the high period...
lately the game seems to lack any real challange. I did find the byzantines in high on expert to be a reasonable challange (due to the mongol hordes), but playing the russains sounds like the challange i'm looking for.
I can't wait. Its goning to be good to be desperatly fighting for survival rather than just crushing all who stand in my path

One problem with Russians in Early; two problems actually http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
No GA. Not a big deal as GA's often end up in domination.
Every building that grants a title...so far...doesn't. Not a huge problem either, but it is nice to get the bonuses to acumen and command that they give.

*mutters something about russians in early and taking the challenge away*
