Hi everyone,

After seeing the game in the Main Hall where the folks are passing the game around when a new King takes the throne, I decided to start up a similar game with a friend of mine from college. The game is in its infancy, with only one reign completed so far, but I thought you all would like to read about it. The link is at:

Snaproll's MTW Webpage - Spain (http://galileo.spaceports.com/~snaproll/MTW/Spain.html)

Let me know what you think Hopefully my friend will make a reasonable effort to continue the story.

Very cool Snaproll. The many screenshots at all levels of the game made the account that much more enjoyable. Compiling and preparing all that illustrative stuff must have taken some time to do. I especially liked the battle map you made of troop movements during the battle of Cordoba.* Please post again when the next installment is added. BTW, what is the difficulty level of the campaign?

* I fought that same battle against a larger Almohad force with a great general (a prince) and much better quality troops. I not only lost that battle but the entire royal family was wiped out too - game over. When I saw it was a bridge battle and nearly my entire army was cav, my brain was screaming Withdraw It is suicide. Alas, I rarely listen to my brain... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

The Campaign is on Hard difficulty. Neither myself or my friend really has much experience with the game yet - I've finished one other campaign on Medium with the Egyptians. It was pretty easy - It was over before gunpowder

The next installment might take awhile - my friend has got the game and I don't know how fast he'll play.

Thanks for your comments Gregoshi

nice work snaproll. the battle replay is a good idea and i can't wait to watch it this weekend. battles with a story are always better and I'm looking forward to your next instalment.

I have to admit when I played the spanish I killed El Cid when I invaded Valenica - even the ai is smart enough to bribe him so I don't know what my excuse is http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I tried bribing him as the Spanish very early from advice I got on this board, and he turned me down I tried again, and he got that unbribeable virtue (or, vice to me&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Snaproll: You've done a superb job with your website. I especially liked the screenshots of the strategic map. It really gives me an idea of what is going on. Have you given any thought to passing the game on to more people as opposed to keeping it confined to yourself and your friend?

Demon of Light,

While the game currently in play with the Spanish is just between the two of us, I would love to start another game I have to warn that the progression would be much slower than the English one going on due to the time needed to prepare and write reports, but I think it would be funn to do one amongst the people on this forum. Anyone else interested? I think the only qualification to play would be the willingness and ability to post your story on a webpage.

very nice, i expecially liked the battle tactic displays showing your troop movements to take the bridge head.

I didnt read the whole thing, but when skimming through i didnt notice and castle assults. did i miss them or did you starve out all the garrisons? i really really hope you dont auto calc them, a game this well RP'd should have any battles auto calculated.

great stuff. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif

Hi wordsmith,

Good question I starved out all the castles. I try never to use auto-calc for the very reasons you mentioned. I'm not sure if my friend who's playing now follows that rule, however.

whoa, great site. Wonderful presentation and good writing. TW really has a wonderful community.
just one point, on your tactical overhead map with the ovals and squares and triangles, i suggest that you could point the triangle of the archers in the direction they are facing, makes it clearer.
Cheers

woa, you gotta get in castle assults in the next game you play. They are the most intresting part of the game to me, and it seems my friends who dont play but have seen me play find castle assults to be the most exciting aspect of the game aswell.

For your next campain might i suggest playing the russians, high period. The russians have the hardest unit roster and starting position to deal with, and the golden horde arrives right on your doorstep. You also will get crusades against you and will be fighting muslims on one side christians on the other, and have the horde pilligeing the homlands all at once It be great fun to see a page dealing with the tragic plight of the russian people.

not that i didnt enjoy the spanish page, but the spanish are just so easy to win with that I really have no doubt that your story of a spanish empire will ultimately end in victory. A russian story would be a edge of your seat, were all going to die, damn those mongles, where is the vodka, pope killing jihad stomping cold miserable drunken adventure.

Well I just might do some castle battles now that you mention it As for the choice of campaigns, I'm really pretty inexperienced, as this is only the second campaign game that I've ever played. The first one was even easier (Egypt Medium). Don't know if I'm ready for Russians High yet.

As I mentioned above, however, I'd be interested in starting another game that we could pass around here in the forums. It would require the creation of a website however. Anyone interested?

Sure, I'd love to join. I've been reading the King of England thread and I also read the first ruler story up on your website, and they're bascially responsible for creating a resurgence in my interest in single player.

Email is striker336@hotmail.com.

Snaproll: While I myself cannot at this time express an interest( owing to certain problems involved with my [brother's]computer) I'm sure you won't have a problem finding interested parties. My own unexpected success in gathering recruits for the King of England game leads me to believe that those monarchs left over when the game ends will be contacting you. If nothing else, if the game ends and there are still people on the list, I'll DIRECT them to you.

P.S: I question your ability to move your game at a slower pace than the King of England. We are some pretty slow people. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I love your story, Snap. Please let us know when you update your website again.

And, I agree with previous posters. I am in the midst of my fourth campaign so far. My first was the English, second was the Spanish, third was the Byzantines and now I am back to the English. In my first, as I was new to the game (and any PC/video game and strategy game in general), I ended up barely getting the 60% in my first campaign. As the Spanish, I won easily on a harder setting by around 1350 and ended up with well over 1 million florins in the bank. As the Byzantines, I was on the verge of winning when I quit with over 60% in the mid 1300s. I was bored and did not like the Byz army choices. I found my Pronoi would get ripped up against other knights and Kats were too slow. I did like the Treb archers and Bulgarian Brigands, though, and the Byz cavalry seemed to do well for me, unless it was against AUMs.

But, in the other three campaigns I was running, I have had trouble accumulating more than 100,000 florins, let alone 1,000,000.

Demon of Life,

That would be great I'm not sure the concept would really work that well but it's worth a shot and it would be fun

I think Striker wanted to do one, and of course I would be in. Anyone else want to do a game like this? Remember - we're talking about each person writing up their King's story on a webpage. This game is less about the game itself and more about the story. Reasonably well-developed writing skills are preferable

Ideas for the campaign settings are also welcome, since Spain seems to be too easy for everyone's liking.

By the way, for those who were wondering when the next installment is coming, I talked to my friend today. He had a dealine at work today, so he hasn't had time to work on it this week much. Should be up soon now that it's the weekend though

EDIT- Okay, I posted the above message before I read the report. I must say your friend's writing style is indeed... different, at least from yours. Good stuff still though. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
