Welcome http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif . You might want to take a look at this thread (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=18;t=2922) . Its kind of a guide to online play for newer players. It also has a link to Tootee's STW Academy, which will also be helpful for learning the ropes. Since I haven't read it in a while I just add a little advice of my own...when in game online, it might be best not to take all 100-man spear units and charge them at an opponent you are not familiar with, targeting all the units at one enemy unit. Since you've played around 30 games already I'm sure you know this. But it was just something I've seen recently and thought I'd share. Good luck, and if you have any other questions pretty much anyone here will be able to answer most of them.
Forgive me if you know this.....firstly, treat everyone with respect. There are many nice people who will help you. I found it easier starting out to play on defense and in a group. Watch what others do and learn from each game. in selecting units add valor first. I make all units valor 3 except bow (etc) which get valor 0 but armor bonus1. Try using one nationality for awhile...get to know the unit capabilities and costs. Then you can learn to mold an army. There are several goo sites with unit ratings. Try using basic tactics for awhile and then learn new tricks. The key is learning to see the situation, knowing what to do, how to do it, and the right time, and then committ fully and fearlessly.
Talk to your allies and work together. Make a few friends who you can play 1v1 games with as learning tools.
Above all, have fun
Good Luck, and if you see Amortis in the lobby would be happy to go 1v1.

Greeting BrotherWolf (if I may call you that) and thanks for visiting the Org. I hope you'll hang around and share the wonderful experience that is Total War.
The best Shogun site I can recall is the Shogun Academy (http://shogun-academy.tripod.com/) as Aelwyn said. There is a weath of information at this site. Check it out.

Skomatth from Clan Kenchikuka wrote his own little guide to battle which covers almost every aspect of battle in MTW. Here is the link:
Guide (http://www.clankenchikuka.com/kenchi/news_story.asp?newsid=67)
Also, download and view the replays of the CWB(Clan War Belt), a competition amongst experienced players. Here you will view the manoeuvre and composition of online armies.
Go to g0ldfish's Shogun Academy for an good tutorial on movement and grouping.
Learn to interpret the unit stats of Attack, Defend, Morale, Armor, Charge, and Speed.
Also, try to set up a training match with an experienced general.
That guide is excellent....thx
