View Full Version : Super Rebels?

Anybody have a problem with super rebels? I am playing the English on Hard right now in a Conquest campaign. I am doing pretty well and have been at war with the Turks for several years now. I basically wiped out the Byzantines and have most of their provinces at this time – Constantinople, Greece, Anatolia, Nicea, Trebizond. However, I got Nicea from the Turks. We are around 1240s at the time. A year or two after I take over Nicea and move on East, a huge loyalist rebellion happens in Nicea. So, I look to see what kind of troops are there, and it is mainly Ghulam bodyguards, Janissary Heavy Infantry and Janissary Archers. Now, I had thought JHI were more of a late period development, and also needed a military academy? And, here I get a rebellion in a province with no military academy, or anything similar, and it is filled with JHI.
So, I have to stop my advance across the Turkish peninsula and send my troops back to Nicea and battle a huge, advanced Turk army. I did not have to fight against JHI or JAs in my other battles with regular Turk forces, either, including fighting the Turk Sultan. And, how long could the Turks have controlled the province, as it was initially Byzantines, and the Turks did not get the province until I invaded the Byz from the North via Crusade and the Turks took advantage and hit the Byz from the other side...
Anybody else run in to super rebels?

I'm shure this one's discussed in quite a number of topics here.
But overall the units of a rebel army are chosen by random. With some regard on the period.
Just don't let happen rebellions http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Hope I could help

I tried, but you can only build watch towers and border forts so fast. I think I had just finished building a border fort when I got the news about the loyalist revolt of the province's previous owners.
Sure, I could keep a huge garrison there, but it costs money...

NewJeffCT, it doesn't sound like you installed the patch. The patch prevents rebellions from producing units not yet available (era restrictions). I don't recall if it pays attention to existing buildings, but I doubt it.
Check out Rebellions in the Table of Contents (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=7;t=2273) thread. From your description you left the province on its own too soon. You just can't conquer and move on. Sure a garrison costs money, but so does having to deal with the Super Rebels.
IIRC, Janissary series are High and Late. I've never played as the Turk or they've long gone before the high era. 1240s is already into the High era and the Janissary series are very common in Turk's royalist rebels and Jihads.
After the patch, the rebel won't be able ,or at least very unlikely, to spawn with units higher than the current tech allow. However, royalist rebels will be more likely to spawn with the best units available at the time.

Turkish loyalist rebellions in high and late period often have JHI. I guess this is the only way for the AI to get them. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Thanks, in battles just a year or two sooner, I had not encountered the vaunted Janissary Heavy Infantry
NewJEffCt, i had a similar experience a few years after taking Rhodes from the Byz. it seems that loyalist rebellions are harder to predict and better equipped than just plain rebels, province loyalty was good and had a very large garrison left over from the conquest, but one Byz ship blocked my shipping lane and, bang, 1400 loyalists with 4 star general appear. anyone know what are the factors for preventing loyalist rebellion as opposed to regular one?

OK, there's a province, let's say to aid my argument Arabia. A loyalist uprising occurs, and lo and behond we have an arsenal of troops there that usually I can not afford. My questions are twofold:
1) Where in the desert can they get the troops and horses of this quality?
2) How do they hide this (often) vast army from me? I assume that they take a bit of time to gather everybody together... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
